VBR MPEG2

I was running out of HD space on an 80GB movie drive. I record Good Eats and each 30 min show is about 950MB when using CBR MPEG2. I had 1 GB left then downloaded the new version and started using VBR MPEG2 and now each show only takes up 550MB. Each time I record a re-run, I get more space back.

hey good eats fan! vbr is great for this kind of show.... not so great with fast action...

Yep, I have 85 episodes recorded so far. I was going to try to encode them into another format, but with XVID at the quality I wanted, I could only get it down to around 600 MB. Why even bother when VBR makes it even smaller.
