OK, here is the problem that I am having: When trying to view Live TV on a client PC, all I get is a blackscreen and then PVRX2 goes to "Not Responding" and has to be forced closed.

Here are the details:

Server: Windows XP, Athlon XP 2400+, 1.5 GB DDR RAM, etc. 100 LAN Hard Wired to Router

Client: Windows Vista Home Premium, Athlon Core Duo 1.9 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, etc. 802.11g Wireless

Now, here is the kicker, I have previously had this combination working with GBPVR and client/server mode. Recently, I decided to move my server upstairs and turn it into a HTPC. So, I removed GBPVR from the client computer and actually rebuilt the server machine. Also, the HTPC got a fresh install of Windows XP and fresh install of GBPVR. Additionally, I reinstalled GBPVR on the old client machine.

The client can schedule recordings and the like but when I go to watch live tv on the client, I get a black screen and note that data is being transferred when looking at the networking tab of Task Manager. Then the PVRX2 window flashes white, transparent and black. After another minute, the PVRX2 window goes to "Not Responding" and the data transfer rate goes to zero shortly after. Watching the server, you can see the recording service start up and remains running after the PVRX2 window is forced closed because of the "Not Responding" lockup. I have to force the server Recording Service to stop. The server appears to operate as it should with viewing Live TV and making recordings.

When performing the installs and configurations, I had a couple of oddities that did not occur with my previous, first installations of GBPVR. On the server side, after the fresh Windows install and GBPVR install, I added several plugins, MusicLibrary2, etc. I decided not to use them and uninstalled them. I then started reciving NET unhandled exception errors. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled GBPVR and all seemed/seems to be working just fine on that side.

As far as the client reinstall of GBPVR, everything went fine with the isntall. However, when I went to run the Live TV command on the client for the first time, I received a popup box asking whether or not to allow the use of ffdshow. It noted that the requesting application (PVRX2) was not on the blacklist or whitelist for the use of ffdshow. I chose to always allow the use of ffdshow. However, the Live TV did not work on the client, after reboots on all machines and changes to the decoders and even streaming/file sharing changes, nothing helped. My issues continue to be just like described above.

I am not a programmer but tried to look over the log files and didn't find anything. I would be happy to post the logs of this if it would be helpful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Zip and attach the client and server logs and I'll see if anything stands out.

Thanks sub!

All of the log files from last nights trials (server and client) are zipped up and attached. Thanks again!

Try running ReRegisterFilters.bat on the client machine.

I'm having this exact problem as well. Somehow I think it is a permissions problem with Vista. Re-registering tosses up a bunch of errors related to permissions, so I have a feeling that's the culprit. Re-registering gets me something like 'DllRegisterService failed with error code 0x80070005". Anyway, if anyone has any ideas I'd be happy to try them out! Thanks

Run a command prompt as administrator, then changed to the c:\program files\devz\gbpvr directory, then run ReRegisterFilters.bat.

I ran the .bat file as an admin and it worked ok (I didn't realize that it's "re-registerfilters.bat" with a "-" which is why I couldn't initially find it). Everything worked, but I'm still having the same issue. Everything appears to work fine, but the program freezes when I try to play a show. Very strange. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Post the logs again now that you've registered the filters.

I'm actually not the guy who started the thread, but my problem sounds exactly like his. Thanks for the help! It's not essential that I use the client, so if I can't figure it out, I'll probably just forget about it. I know you're busy and don't want to take up too much time!

Ah, right you are Big Grin

It looks like its basically blocked trying to connect to the server. I'm guessing its either the firewall on either the client or the server getting in the way.
