I'm looking for a cheap MediaMVP Wired or Wireless, and was just wonder if anybody has had any luck finding any in places other than ebay, craigslist, and the website formerly known as "Froogle" (Google Shopping)?

I'm watching a couple on ebay right now, but not guarantee. I see an auction right now for two of them for about $10 with six days out (prolly will end at $100)...If get the two would somebody be interested in splitting the cost?

I was thinking about setting up a wired one with a wireless G bridge...is this a bad idea?

Most of the complaints with stuttering issues on the MVP seem to come from people using wireless or homeplug Ethernet-over-power-lines networking. Streaming video just doesn't deal with hiccups in the data stream very well.

Its tough anymore to really not use those methods. Most people don't have dedicated ethernet jacks and my wife doesn't really like cords laying everywhere...so were going to have to come up with better methods at consumers and producers.

I borrowed a 9-foot-long electricians drill bit and got busy in the attic. 1,500 feet of cable and 24 ports later I have wired Ethernet everywhere in the house, even the garage! Smile I got the tools, wall plates, and jacks pretty cheap from http://www.deepsurplus.com and picked up a 10/100 Mbit Dlink switch for about $50 (after rebate) from http://www.zipzoomfly.com My cabling is all set for Gigabit, but a 24-port Gigabit switch is still just a tad on the expensive side.

Now thats what I call dedicated. Smile I would consider doing that but I'm currently finishing my basement....my wife would be pi**ed if I started two projects as such....

I will have to keep that one in mind though, our townhome is brand new and it wouldn't be too hard to get that going...

Got a price estimate for how much that was doing it yourself? Big Grin

jpete1019,

Don't know how old your house is, but if it's not too old and you're lucky, the guy that did your phone wiring may have used cat5e. The twisted pairs keep the phone lines from picking up radio signals and the cable's so cheap in bulk, it's simply easiest for the installers. If so, you can actually piggyback 100Mb ethernet over the same line, splitting at the wall jack and your phone box into a phone and network plug.

This was the case in my house and so it was quite simple to put a wired ethernet drop in every room in the house.

Yep! Had the tools and parts sent via a Star Trek transporter, then cloned myself to pull cables and punch down the keystone jacks. Wink

It really took about 20 hours of work over several days. Cool
