I'm getting ready to build a client machine and had a few questions:

1) How do the client/server communicate? Is it a listening socket or is it just sharing the directory and reading the databases and files

2) How is LiveTV accomplished (socket like alluded to above?)

3) Do I have to install the plugins on my client or does it use the ones from the server (specifically cinema listings and weather?)

Its a combination of both. Database is always accessed via a share.

The user can choose between file or streaming mode.

It probably applies to you, so I should mention ATSC/QAM live tv doesnt work.

Plugins would need to be installed on the client.

Thanks Sub, understood.

Is the HDTV limitation due to bandwidth or some other driver related issue?

i stream atsc live tv[timeshift] just fine with client...never really had any problems with it..so far everything works fine, 1080i,720p etc..
or do you mean only QAM? i can see how that might not work over streams..

Ok, I stand corrected. I was under the impressions from comments that I've read that the highdef channels didnt stream smoothly enough.

well, partially correct, i'm pretty sure HD doesn't work well in file sharing mode..
but that mode has lots of other quirks anyways...

plus, you can use both methods from streaming mode, just access file from video library and it'll be in file sharing mode..Smile from recordings screen it's streaming..
[as a workaround] [tho livetv/timeshift is always streaming]

use the networking tweak for better transfer rates also..[tcp1323 ext.'s]
it aids constant transfer thruput like HD streams...

network speedup:
Code:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]
"TcpWindowSize"=dword:000f4240
"Tcp1323Opts"=dword:00000001

Question - these networking tweaks -
are they to be done on the client, server, both?
do they require a reboot?

thanks
