Apologies in advance for the noob question - I did a search and reviewed the wiki but never seemed to get the right answer.

I'm using a HDHR with Comcast Cable and then running GB-PVR on a HP MSS (WHS).

I'm purely intending to use this to record TV rather than watch live TV and it works fine for the standard and HD channels. Setup was a breeze thanks to the instructions on the Silicondust forum (thanks Whurlston). Smile

Here is my issue. I want to be able to record ondemand chanels err.... on demand Big Grin.

There are 40 channels that ondemand can be on and I have added all of these to my 'Digital Cable.xml' definition for the HDHR. GB-PVR scans this list of channels but only adds the active ones. Of course at any one time only a small subset of channels are being used.

Is there a file that I can manually edit that allows me to say

Channel 'Ondeamd 101-4' maps to 86.1 on the HDHR
Channel 'Ondeamd 101-5' maps to 86.2 on the HDHR
etc etc

even if channel 101-4 is currently not being used and therefore not found in the autoscan?

Also as an aside if I create a new channel on my list (ondemand1 for example) and I map an ondemand channel to it then the 'record manual' option does not seem to work. Take a 'real' channel (say Flix) and map the same channel to it and then configure a manual recording and it works fine.

I'm running the latest HDHR and GB-PVR

Answers along the lines of... "You didn't look at the wiki very hard, search for info on file XXXXX.XXX" much appreciated. Wink

Thanks

You can manually edit the Tuning string (T:~PMT=xxx~A=xxx~V=xxx) in your capture source. You will need to know the PMT, Video and Audio PID numbers, you can get those PID numbers from a program like TS Reader Lite available at http://www.coolstf.com/

You can also run a scan when you know a channel is broadcasting and then open your devnz\gbpvr\ATSC\Scan-*.cache file and copy the tuning string you need and manually paste it.

Whurlston,

Thanks for the reply. As I'm always looking to record a specific program, starting it then doing a scan is probably an acceptable (and simple) solution.

Quick question - when you scan for channels, does it wipe out the old ones already assigned? If not then a scan once a day over the period of a week or so should find all the channels.

Also is it possible to edit the names used in the channel guides? As I do not have showtime or hbo it would be cool to rename these channels ondemand 101.1, etc. I would want to do this because manual record does not seem to work when I manually created a channel. It would be fine that the guide displayed incorrect info.

TIA

It does not wipe out the channels that are already mapped, it only clears the list under the preview window but that can be recreated by editing the scan*.cache file.

I'm not actually sure, I don't think I ever tried to rename a channel. You may be able to do it in the "Channels" tab. sub may answer this more definitively.

The only way to edit the name would be to tweak the CHANNEL.display_name in the database. Changing this name wouldnt effect its ability to manually record.
