Sub, Did you have any joy with Syabas and the encoding of NZ freeview audio codec?

Does the Monogram decoder do a decent job of the AAC stream (I see there were some sync issues)

Cheers

No, not yet. Syabas have told me the chipset manufacturer's (Sigma) latest SDK contains some AAC LATM support, but they've been unable to get it working with the sample I supplied them.

Best thing people can do is continue to post on the NMT forums asking if the PCH can be made to play HE AAC LATM audio as used by DVB-T channels in NZ and Norway. Hopefully seeing more of these sorts of posts will keep them looking at it.

I'll also prod them from time to time by email...

I did try dynamically converting the audio to AC3 at recording time, and it kind of worked, but unfortunately I couldnt find a combination of directshow filters that produced a smooth file. They always ended up with some timing issues (5 seconds smooth with perfect audio followed by 5 seconds stuttering etc).

Yeah. It seems fine with live tv, though does have some audio/video issues on playback of recordings. I've been working on this the last couple of days. Its incredibly complex, and I have no resolution at this stage. I'll get to bottom of it, but will take a little bit longer.

Ah, good spotting. Tallies up with what they told me about the new SDK version and HE AAC LATM. Good to see its still on their radar.

If any other NZ users want to see it fixed, they should get in on that thread and comment on the HE AAC bit, or start a new thread asking about HE AAC LATM support. They already know I want it fixed, so there is no point in me posting comments on the subject. I want them to see comments from other users saying the same thing...

Hi Sub,

I've got PDVD H.264 codec working with Monogram 0.9.3.0. Lipsync problem as expected. CPU about 5% with 8600GT hardware acceleration.

However the .ts recordings only playback on GBPVR. Do you know how I get Windows Media Player to recognise the aac audio and playback those recordings?

Yeah, same here. The lack of audio discussed in this thread relates to the Popcorn Hour device though, not playback on the PC. This is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Sorry, it not possible for Windows Media Player to play these files at this time. I imagine we'll see an updated version of the Haali splitter some time in the future that will enable this, but its not possible at this stage.

Its about time that AAC-LATM audio gets requested in the NMT forums again. So, psycik, lindsay or other NZ PCH hour owners, can one of you please do a post on the NMT forums to keep the issue visible?

I have been able to successfully convert the AAC-LATM audio to AC3 on the fly as it records, but I ended up having to use a combination of three hard to get directshow filters, so its too complex for the average user. They'd really struggle sourcing all three of these, so getting Syabas to include native AAC-LATM/HE-AAC support is pretty much the only option at this point.

Done. Hope it works! Not holding breath, however. It's a bit of a killer, though, eh?

As June has come and gone, I've just requested an update on the status of AAC LATM audio support on the NMT forum.

I've been patiently waiting for this to be resolved before taking the plunge and acquiring a NMT.
