I read with interest that Syabas will be implementing a native resume/bookmark function on the the NMT platform probably sooner than later.

http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewtopic.php?t=3413

I'm curious how many current and future users of the PCH would want to use this feature either with GB-PVR or separately (or course using files served by GB-PVR). Would it be important enough for you to add an hard drive to you PCH to get it?

I'm just brainstorming right now I don't any more than the email says, but I really doubt there will be an ability to share the database between PCH devices.

Great news! I'd like this to get served by GBPVR, since that would mean it would work on every client. If that turns out to be impossible, I'd be happy to add an USB stick to my PCH, but a hard drive? That would be too much for me.

Yes, I think so.

Someone in the NMT thread asked if the database could be on a network share instead of local hard drive but it wasn't answered.

I don't know if I would add a drive just for resume functionality although I consider it important. Maybe if other features were added down the road I would consider it.

I agree. It'd be nice to have resume functionality, but I wouldnt add a hard drive to get it.

Me, neither. To date, it hasn't been a feature that is important to me.

I am that someone and PH responded that it will be local. Based on the limited feedback it doesn't seem like this is a really high priority item anyway.

Seeing as how I have several old hard drives laying around not being used at the moment, why not? I'm assuming that it really doesn't have to be much of a drive, correct?

So something like a 20GB or a 40GB drive should suffice? I have to believe that most of the folks reading this thread probably have something similar laying around that would do the job.

Just my two cents.

I've got plenty of old drives sitting around, but I'd still rather not put one in the PCH. I'd prefer it to be absolutely silent, and to run as cool as possible. People on the NMT forums have had problems with hard drives never spinning down, and with PCH units running too hot.

I didn't realize that this might be a problem. I can't see the noise being an issue, but if the drive doesn't ever power down, heat certainly could be. Is this an issue that a firmware update might resolve?
