Hi

What do you folk do when your recordings hard disk gets full?

I have a 500GB disk that has about 30GB left on it, and decreasing rapidly. Obviously I don't watch stuff as fast as I record, so one option is don't record it.
Some stuff I have watched and I am looking for a nice way to move it to the video library which is on another (almost empty) disk.
The other option is to transcode it to something smaller - I was avoiding this as most of it is transitory and will get deleted and the rest made into DVDs, so multiple transcoding is best avoided.

I beleive that PVRX2 can't have multiple recordings disks, is that correct?
If it can how. I have read another thread about seamless mounting one disk from another - anyone doing that? what is the required software?

Thanks for any help you can give - I will need to sort it soon as I removed the wifes recurring recording of CSI to prevent the disk filling up!!

1. i used to use video archive but it hasnt updated it to run with the latest version of pvrx2it should still work its just it doesnt show up in the main menu
but you could access through gbpvr.exe if you wanted to manually move programs to another drive(it updates the database to point to the new drive
2. theres also simple archive
3. just move movies to another drive they will no longer show under recordings if you do that though
but movies take up the most room
4. change your recordings directory to another hard drive the database will still stay intact(as long as the drive letters stay the same), but you will be recording to the new hard drive (client machine doesnt seem to like this way)

@stuztunz:

I recently added a new drive. I changed the recording drive in the GBPVRconfig app. This way new recordings are on the are on the new drive (and new drive letter). I had probelms with the client setup as it was in file sharing mode. In streaming mode however this works perfectly.

Alternatively when moving recordings to another drive simply edit the recordings-dump.xml file to reflect the new drive (and path) and import the recordings through the import function of the config app. As far as client machines are concerned also here sharing mode is needed.

yeah i cant use streaming as i have to use dvr-ms
i was just stating the downfall of each but there is always a way around it

i have never edited the database do you have to do each recording ie if you have 100 recording you have to change 100 files thats to much work for meSmile

I did the export, change and import when I added the last disk. I think I did a search and replace, can't remember but I know I didn't change one at a time - I'm too lazy.

The archive tool sounds good, looks a bit over the top for my simple needs.

What is the simple archive that you mentioned - is that a different plugin?

Hi Martin
Oh you shouldn't do that - that is just too tempting - I have 2 Spinpoint 500GB disks and space for 3 more disks.

I had VideoArchive up and running while skinning it for the CommunitySkin. I believe the wiki page says it supports pvrx2 now.
