Though GBPVR (PVRX2) Does it's best to match channel names to those scanned, I have always found that it only does so for less than 40% of my channels. I spend a long time trying to match them up after.

a) I'm doing it wrong, and if so give me a pointer and I shall be quiet.

b) Wouldn't it be great to have a search tool of some sort built in? I'm on DVB-S and regularly have to search through over 600 found channels in no particular order to find my match.... Frustrating.

Just a thought

I do intend to do a revamp of the scanning screens in the future, but I probably wont find time for it for the next release, but hopefully in the near-ish future.

Some of the mapping stuff is complex since a xmltv file and and the channel name in the DVB/ATSC stream may be entirely different. I've looked at doing fuzzy searches etc to improve the automapping, but the results werent that great (consider 'TVONE' vs 'TV1', 'Discovery Travel And Adventure' vs 'DT&A' etc)

People that are able to use the DVB EPG fare better since they only need to tick the channels they want rather than mapping.

Cheers Sub,

I undertsand the logic, 'twas only a ventured thought, for a perfect channel mapped world!

Just frustrating that we have to manually map so many channels every time for a scan/update/new card etc. I guess there's too many variables to make it possible.

If you are getting your EPG from Alan Birtles xmltvgui ISTR there is a script to rename channels to what you want them to be (a text file with 'match' and 'replace with') you could tweak this to make your EPG names the same as the broadcast channel name and then they would match up. A long and tedious job, but only needing doing once, with maybe small edits as channels come and go.
It would mess up your existing dabase probably though.

Hi,

I do indeed use Birtles XMLTV, have just checked his website but can't seem to find this info, ould you point me? This sounds like a great work around.

Cheers

I don't use it myself, but understand it was meant to solve a problem similar to yours but for DVB-T channel names.
I think it is the postprocessor called UK_RT_ALT_text and is in settings, postprocessors.

Some info on the wiki here http://www.birtles.org.uk/xmltv/wiki/ind...names_Text

Hope that helps - let us know if it does,

Hi Martin,

thanks for this, finally got around to playing with it. No luck yet as get an error in the grab:

13:39:55 - Starting pass 1 of processor UK_RT_ALTNAMES_Text
13:39:55 - ...les\XMLTV GUI\scripts/uk_rt/ukrt_altchnames_text.lua:20: bad argument #1 to `lines' (No such file or directory)

so needs a bit more investigation........

Cheers

Hi again,

well firstly had forgotten this instruction:

'and make sure to correctly set the full path to the configuration file in the postprocessor settings dialogue in XMLTVGUI.' DOH

But still no joy, error now is:

13:51:24 - Starting pass 1 of processor UK_RT_ALTNAMES_Text
13:51:24 - ...les\XMLTV GUI\scripts/uk_rt/ukrt_altchnames_text.lua:20: bad argument #1 to `lines' (Permission denied)

Wonder why Permission Denied????

'Fraid I can't help you with that one. As I said it's not a facility I used.

There again, those errors sound familiar, so I may have tried and given up!

I'll keep watching this thread in the hope you fix it Wink
