Hi,

I know that I can chop recordings in video editing software- however, is there some (preferably free software) that will enable me to chop the beginning and ending padding off multiple gbpvr recordings quickly?

I have gigs worth of Tom 'n Jerry, Thomas the Tank engine and Bob the Builder I would like to sort out for the kids, but need to get the job done as quickly as possible for my own sanity!

Any thoughts would be welcome!

Daniel

I use the (non-free) Videoredo. It has a batch mode where you can mark the edit points of multiple files and then run the batch manager to do the actual edits (maybe overnight).

That sounds like a fantastic idea! Cheers!

have a look at comclean and comskip
maybe im missing the point but im sure you could run comskip which finds the adds and normally finds the beginning and end and i think from memory you can set it to cut off the bits at either end then run comclean job done

comskip puts out a txt file for the cuts(if you want to cut the exact same amount for each file you couold make one txt file for all mpegs etc)
then make a batch that uses that txt file to run with comclean to cut each end of the file off

Take a look at Mpeg2Cut2. It is free and allows you to cut out chunks of video.

I use MPEG_Streamclip (free) - for a 1 hour show with 3 ad breaks, I can cut out the ads, trim off the pre and post padding and save the new version in less than 10 minutes.

For just extracting bits out of MPEGs I use Free Fast Mpeg Cut.

Both do the minimum amount of re-rendering.

Thanks for all of these.

Embarassingly, I have never got comclean and comskip to work for me. However, last time I tried, I had bigger problems to solve (like picture tearing and quality issues), so it fell down my list of tasks.
