I'm about at my wit's end! I'm trying to IR blast a Motorola VIP1200 receiver with an MCE Blaster and am not having much luck.
Here's what I've tried:
1. Hip - Actually found a ccf file, but hip doesn't recognize the numbers. Menu, Guide, etc (in the ccf) all work well, but without numbers, I can't change to a specific channel.
2. Learning in Hip is fruitless - It just won't recognize the codes when I 'test' them. I even tried what one internet post suggested of pointing the remote to the floor, raise it, then point it back to the floor. Stupid, I know, however, IR Server Suite sorta works using this method....
3. IR Server Suite - Recorded the codes and found the most reliable method was doing the stupid floor, up, floor thing. Blasting is completely unreliable, but it sometimes picks up the codes. Sometimes it picks up another number altogether. Ie. Sending '2', and the uverse box shows a '5'.?
4. Finally got tired of 'guessing' where the IR receiver is on the box - I've seen pics on the 'net where people claim it's on the left and some say on the right, and some say in the middle. I popped off the dark plastic front piece and can definitively say that I'm positioned over the IR receiver Smile Of course, I've re-tried to blast in HIP and IR Server Suite to no avail.

There's one post on here where someone said that they got it working, http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...t=vip+1200
but failed to provide any details. I don't even know what kind of blaster they were using. I'll be sending him a PM Wink

Has anyone gotten blasting to work on the vip1200 or vip1216(the dvr - same IR codes)?!?! Help!

My first lines were going to be; "why didn't you PM me?" then I log in to reply and see I have a PM, sorry!

What is the floor up floor up that you mention?

Yes I did get it to work and blasting is mostly solid, the only problems I have is IR server and HIP fighting each other but I can work that out I have do it every time I turn the computer on and there is sometimes a 3 to 5 button delay when turning the box on after its been off for a while, also solvable.

The first thing is placement, I think I have the best placement. If you are going to be putting this on the 1216 then I'd suggest you look as the IR reciever for the box my be in a different place. On the 1200 its right next to the Record LED on the front. My Blaster is with wire down:

3 3/4 inches from the right or 9.45CM
11/32 inches or .7 ~.9CM from the top

Do you want to blast in HIP or IR server? I haven't ever had problems of learned commands being sent improperly unless I learned them incorrectly ( I once learned button 1 as button 0)

Edit: One more thing you don't have to open the box to see where the reciever is. Take a flashlight and hold it on an angle. You won't see much but you'll spot a darker area and a small round area in it which isn't labeled, thats the receiever.

Thanks for the info. It's the Vip1200. I did the flashlight trick, but after 3 hours of no luck, I figured out that the front plastic thing just pops right off :> .
I absolutely, positively have the blaster directly over the receiver now, but it still doesn't work.
Can you upload or pm me the IR Record xml & Hip files that you are currently using? Maybe I'm having issues 'learning' the codes so maybe if I just use a 'known good' file, it'll work.

I don't know where to find ir record xml? I do have a config.xml? If thats what you want I can wrap your information up and give you a link.

Of course I didn't open my box but my face doesn't just pop off, there are two screws that hold on the plastic strip. Also I don't know if these codes will work for the New Cisco/Scientific Atlanta boxes they have been giving out now if anyone finds this in the future and decides to try it let us know.

Let me check what the actual files are when I get home tonight. I seem to remember that the IR Server Suite just kept them all in one .xml file, while hip kept each key in a separate file. I'll post the locations of the files later tonight.

I really appreciate your assistance!

What version of IR Server Suite are you using? They keep them in seperate files in my version. The problem is that they don't tell you exactly where it is.

I'm using IR Server Suite 1.0.4.1. They are all in separate files - same with hip, mine are at C:\Program Files\HIP\MCEIR

I don't need to remote control the computer, just blast channel numbers, so I really only need numbers 0-9 and the 'ok' key. You could tar/zip/rar the key files to upload/send them.

Here you go I included some info about how its setup, this isn't anywhere near a guide or steps on what to do. Just the files and some explanation of what I did.

Hope it work, let me know.

I posted this off site as I plan to maintain it. If this link ever becomes stale, look for my username on hosted.filefront.com and you should find the new file there.

I'm going to switch our multi-board conversation over to this one.

I uninstalled HIP and IR Server Suite, re-installed HIP, walked through the wiki (re-added the IR codes you uploaded and trained hipsend in the alternative input section) and I got hipsend to send the IR codes! I'm a step closer, but it doesn't register on the STB

Apparently you can't just edit the Primary Command in the alternative input section (ie. change it from 1 to {?1.001} ). You have to step through the hipsend 1, then associate the IR command via the gui.

One wierd thing though, when I send the hipsend 1, it allowed me to associate the command, but when I sent hipsend 2 the gui said "Command has already been defined". If I delete the 'system wide key' and then try to do the hipsend 2, it still says "Command has already been defined". So, while it sends IR codes (blaster light flashes when I send commands) I'm not convinced that I'm sending the right commands.

I've forgotten what a pain hip is. Sad

I'll keep plugging along and hopefully find the magic combination of things to get it to work.

Just an update - I've reconfigure HIP a couple of times and can get it to send the IR Codes, but they aren't acknowledged by the receiverSad At one point I did a hipsend 222 200 3 2, and the receiver registered a '2'. I haven't been able to reproduce it. Grrrrr, this is frustrating.

I tried to use IR Server Suite, but it seems to bomb whenever you set the -speed flag. It just doesn't like it. Have you any luck getting it to work?
