I use MceEpg2XmltV. I know it's no longer supported. I have it set to add new channels to the EPG. Presumably that means that when it sees new channels in the Media Center EPG data, it leaves them in the XML that is the source dat for GBPVR. I've seen this work. When my cableco adds new digital channels, I see them in GBPVR, but with no associated guide data until I map them.

Today I saw new channels in the XML source guide data, but did not see them inside GBPVR - either in the EPG screen or in the config screen for mapping. I went into config and did a normal EPG update. They still did not appear.

First Q: When/how do new channels in the xml source data get into the guide I see inside GBPVR? Does this happen in some nightly run? Can I force it?

I manually added the channel, which gave me the channel, but no data. Then I did an "empty epg" inside config. This worked to give me data, but it said I would lose all pending recordings. I backed up gbpvr.db then tried it, but oddly, I did not lose any pending or recurring programs.

Second Q: Why not?

Basically, I'm trying to understand what I should have done to force the new channel in the XML source data to appear in config (for mapping) and in GBPVR's EPG screen.

Thanks.

If the channels are on a digital source, they will be added to the database but will not show up in PVRx2 until they are mapped and enabled (checked). If you go into Config, you should see them in the list. And I'm not "officially" supporting MceEpg2XmlTv but I may do quick fixes if needed.

The new channels were in the xml data (I looked with my editor) and they had been identified as new and added to the xml config for MceEpg2XmlTv, but they were not in gbpvr.db3 or visible in GBPVR's config. I was in config trying to map and enable, but they weren't there. My question was when do they get added to the gbpvr.db3 database, and how do I make them appear. Doing an update EPG from inside config did not add them.

I assumed there must be some process that caused them to be added, but that process had not yet run? The reason I assumed that was because other new channels had automatically appeared in config and even inside Guide in GBPVR.

That's great to know. It's always worked well for me. As far as I know, this is not a MceEpg2XmlTv question. It's more of a how does GBPVR handle new channels that suddenly appear in the xml data type of question.

They get added when the next EPG update occurs.

When the app processes an xmltv file it loads in all the channels and all the programmes then saves them to disk. If new ones are in there, then they're saved too. It doesnt try to filter them out for any special processing.

As whurlstom mentioned though, if you're using a digital device and those channels arent mapped, then they wont be usable (but they will be in the database).

Shouldn't I have seen them when I did an update from config, then? I ran update from config, but they didn't seem to be added to the db. Maybe I needed to exit config and re-enter ( I thought I did that, but perhaps not.) OK, I'll chalk it up to doing something wrong and look more closely next time. Thanks for the info.

Yes, you'd normally see them in the config. Infact this is how all your other channels got there. They were all pulled in when your epg updated.

Hit the 'update epg' button in the config app, then zip and attach the config.exe.log and xmltv file, and let me know the name of an example channel and I'll take a look.

I've had a problem with adding new channels too.

I select the edit feature in config so that I can add an extra channel.

I type in the channel name and number, enable it and hit OK.The channel appears in the list.

I update the EPG.

After the EPG is updated Ok, I select map the digital channels to the EPG.

When I do, a dialog appears with the channel name column and the enable tick box but no "Tuning Request" column so I am unable manually to map the channels listed with ones found in the scan.

Anyone else had this problem please?
