Has any one tried the "PlayOn" software located at:
http://www.themediamall.com/playon
It looks like you could stream videos from hulu.com and other sites. They are also working on netflix streaming. If anyone has I would be interested in hearing your experience with it.

PlayOn is in pretty much the same boat as the Netflex plugin, it can download the videos and supply them to the PCH, but the PCH is unable to play them. It'll download the video files, and try streaming them to the upnp devices like the PCH, but they wont actually play unless the target device supports the require DRM standards.

Does anyone know if the PCH team plans to support protected content at any point?

They have indicated they intend to support the netflex DRM, but we'll have to wait and see if it eventuates.

Has anyone else noticed that many of the links @ http://themediamall.com are down?

Anyone see any news as to whether this company is closing up shop or something? The customer service link is down, forums down, etc.

Shame if that's the case, since it seems to be a pretty sweet product - I use it w/ my PS3.

I noticed that too. I just downloaded the newest version of the software the other day. I am now able to watch netflix movies on my tv using the PCH.

I tested this and they are apparently stripping the DRM and reencoding the file to mpg. The PlayOn service was extremely flaky for me and required restarting after almost every attempted use. I considered using it for my Netflix plugin but the two above reasons persuaded me against it.

That may be why their site is down. I wonder if NF sent them a C&D. Isn't stripping DRM illegal?

That really depends on "Fair Use" rules in one's country. In the US, the Mother of DMCA, I can't see this being allowed too long. I think everyone who spends $30 for NetFlix this way should be cautious, even if the site is down for non-related reasons.

Apparently the site got hammered from everyone downloading at once upon the news that Netflix support was enabled. It's back up now.

I agree & plan to do some more digging before plunking down the $30.

I still have 39 days to go on my trial & it works like a champ.
