Hi,

Can someone please point me to the steps needed to view the new HD files? (Using gbpvr or not).

I have gbpvr running with an analogue tv card but want to get a card suitable to receive HD.

Playing downloaded sample .ts files doesn't work for me either in vlc or gbpvr so I assume need decoders, but which ones, and are there free ones?

thanks,
Steve

If you buy a Hauppage DVB-T card in NZ, it should come with PowerCinema which receives and view NZ Freeview HD.

HD and H.264 means that your system (cpu & gpu) needs to be pretty high spec though.

GB-PVR can view these channels or recordings if you install a H.264 (like Cyberlink H.264 decoder) and HE-AAC decoder (like the monogram aac decoder).

Thanks for the quick replies - I'll give that a go for viewing the sample files.
I may have to set up a new pc by the sounds of it - my gbpvr server is actually my main development pc running zillions of apps including several virtual machines under vmware server etc. It is a Pentium 3.2 HT with 3GB ram, XP Pro SP2, several ide, sata and usb drives, ATI Radeon 9600 AGP card, Hauppage 150, a laptop client plus a MVP.
Does this video card sound up to it (I'll have to change motherboards to get anything better)?

Sorry, but its unlikely that machine would be able to view all the freeview HD channels (would probably cope with the standard def channels).

My old dual core AMD X2 4400+ with nvidia 7600GS video card wasnt able to smoothly play these channels, and both the CPU and video card were more powerful than what you're using.

These days an nvidia 8500/8600 video card is recommended, since these contain H.264 hardware acceleration to help reduce the load on the CPU. Unfortunately these are only available in PCIe not AGP.
