Hello All ... First let me introduce myself. I've been a PC / Internet guy for about 15 years now, and finally took the plunge & built a HTPC. I'm using it strictly for ripped DVD's (my 3 kids have coastered many disks and trashed two players) so getting it all on hard disks is a good thing.

I'm running PVRX2 and MovieWiz manager in Vista Home Premium, and must run MovieWiz Manager "as Administrator" or it doesn't load properly.

I've been reading a lot about PVRX2 and MovieWiz. I've ripped one of our disks (Hoodwinked) and in MovieWiz against the main movie folder, including subfolders, structured like this:

x:\movies\dvd-title-here

It found Hoodwinked, loaded info and cover, and I was psyched. But now I can't get PVRX2 to see that data. I've been through the Wikis, followed the steps, but something seems to be missing.

Does MovieWiz automatically push that data over as soon as it finds it? Do I have to export it and then import an XML file into PVRX2?

Under "Manage Content" all of the info is there for this movie. I haven't checked offline (not sure what it does). While I created thumbnails, I deleted the entry, reimported and stuck with the recommended box cover.

I see buttons for Export Entry, which fails saying Hoodwinked metadata NOT saved ...

Export All ... says 0 successfully exported.

And there is a checkbox for one file, not checked.

I have seen the XML created and basically its an empty node with no data, so nothing seemed to have saved.

Up top near the << < > >> nav I tried "Save" but that didn't seem to do anything.

Settings 1 -

If this helps, on the settings tab, the "Add Content" all are checked except IMDB AKA lookp

For extensions it says .mpeg;.mpg;.avi;.mov;.iso but I'm using DVDShrink to do the rip. I don't know if this is a problem, as it did find the info & was able to look up the right film information.

Settings 2 -- I didn't change anything.

Plug In Settings --

Display fields are all checked
There are no archive locations indicated, "Include subDirs in Lookup/Sync" is not checked

I hope to rip 200 or so movies onto the box, and let the kids (and grandparents) flip by cover, pick a movie and they'll be good to go.

Am I missing something? Am I doing it wrong? Is something just not working right?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

When you say it doesn't show up in gbpvr are you talking about moviewiz in the menu or the movie doesn't show up in moviewiz.

After installing MovieWiz make sure you go into the gbpvr config program, click the Plugin tab, and insure MovieWiz is checked, make sure you click save on the config program to exit. This will write necessary entries into the gbpvr config.xml which will show the MovieWiz entry on the main menu. At this point, you will notice a MovieWiz entry in the main menu list.

You can add movies 3 ways:
  • Gbpvr config program, plugin tab, select MovieWiz and click settings.
  • Run the MovieWiz Manager under start-programs-gbpvr-wiztools-moviewiz manager. This is the same program you run under the gbpvr config, just a different entrypoint.
  • From within PVRX2, when in the MovieWiz plugin, select the Import option.
If you'd like your movies to show up under the Recordings plugin, you may from the MovieWiz Manager, Export the recordings to XML.
  • In the MovieWiz Manager, on the Manage Content tab,
  • check the 1 file checkbox,
  • click Export All, the default file name will be MovieWiz_Recordings.xml.
  • Then in the gbpvr config program, Pllugins tab
  • Click Import Recordings, then select the file created above to import.
Your MovieWiz entries will now appear in the Recordings list in PVRX2.

In PVXR2, Movie Wizard does show up in the option, but when I click on it, it says I "do not have any information loaded into the Movie Repository..."

My XML that was mentioned above file contains the following:

< ?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
< recordings>

< /recordings>

That's the entire file. There is nothing between the "recordings" tags.

I do recall seeing someone mention something about shadow files in vista in a post before I installed the software ... haven't been able to find the post. Could that be the issue? Something else Vista related?

I believe this has something to do with Vista. It somehow creates a 'shadow copy'. The one you loaded (under administrator id) is a physically different copy than the one used in PVRX2.

I don't have Vista, so don't know the details exactly, but this thread may give you some clue: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...sta+shadow

I've shut off the shadow copying, but that didn't do it. I uninstalled everything, reinstalled, and that seemed to do the trick. However, when I'm playing the movies that were already recorded, it is no longer playing audio ... This is the same rip that was there before that did have audio ... I'm not sure if there is a setting somewhere that would cause this ... need to dig deeper

Thanks

Does the recording play in another program like Windows Media Player? If so, then it is probably the audio codec.

Check your Audio Decoder on the Playback tab in config. Rather than system default, specify decoders until you find one that works.
