Running v1.2.13 on XP Pro.

All appears to be working well, but one particular season recording is not picking up two episodes I know I don't have:

Show: Metalocalypse
Episode 1: Dethcarraldo EP008519090029 Tues 10/30 0100
Episode 2: Dethgov EP008519090030 Tues 10/30 0115

I took a look at GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log this morning, after the last update at 0400 and found the following:

2008-10-23 04:06:18.054 VERBOSE [12] getPreviousEpisodesIdentifiers()
2008-10-23 04:06:18.054 VERBOSE [12] Recently had recording: EP008519090029
2008-10-23 04:06:18.054 VERBOSE [12] Recently had recording: EP008519090030

2008-10-23 04:08:05.850 VERBOSE [12] - skipping episode because a
schedule recording already matches this episode: EP008519090029
2008-10-23 04:08:05.850 VERBOSE [12] Found potential match at
10/30/2008 1:15:00 AM (EP008519090030)

I'm not familiar with "previous episodes," so what do the results from getPreviousEpisodesIdentifiers() mean? I can assure you that I do not have these episodes in my database (except in the Programmes table). I can also assure you that my Pending Recordings do not include either of these episodes so I'm not sure why these are being skipped.

This isn't an immediate problem since I can schedule them manually, but I'm not always able to catch the missing recordings. My Metalocalypse season recording used to work just fine, and in fact other season recordings continue to work fine.

Can I gain any benefit by deleting my old Metalocalypse season recording and starting anew with a more recent episode?

I attached my recording service log and recording-dump.xml just for fun. Please let me know if I should look at any other log.

Thanks in advance!

Previous episodes are ones that you either have in your pending/ready recordings, or have deleted recently.

You can clear the recent list by running "pvrx2.exe -removehistory"

Thanks for the tip, I didn't know about any command line options. I'll give that a go tonight and see what happens.

I have neither of those episodes in my pending/ready recordings, nor have I deleted them recently. Have you seen any other cases where episodes showed up in the previous list by mistake? I'd like to make sure I avoid these situations in the future. Also, is there a way to spot a "previous episode" in the database (guessing the Programmes table)?

I follow a number of shows that repeat episodes within a single day. I am used to resolving conflicts by deleting a pending recording, and waiting for the EPG update to schedule a following repeated episode. Is this a dangerous practice? It seems to work fine. I never got the chance to try this out on the two episodes in question, though.

Thanks, sub.

No, I'm not aware of any case of it happening without an explainable reason. I'm sure it'll be a show episode that was scheduled and you cancelled, and its not re-scheduling it working on the assumption you didnt want that episode, or something like that. It doesnt pluck episode codes like 'EP008519090029' out of thin air.

It happened on another episode last week, too. I'm starting to think that my season recording (which is some 2 years old) is poisoned. It's acting exactly as if all new episodes are immediately shunted to the "previous episode" list.

Note that I recently eliminated vast amounts of cruft from gbpvr.db3, due to Schedules Direct adding all new channels to my profile by default while my HTPC was disabled for a couple of months due to lightning strike. I noticed other weird things happening (e.g. not able to delete successive pending recordings) which I attributed to too much data. I cleaned up my profile and channels list only a couple of days ago.

If I decide to maintain my database by deleting the season recording, then reschedule it using a more recent episode, will that add or remove individual episodes from the "previous episode" list?

I still plan to try your -removehistory option, I'm just trying to get a feel for how the database works. I didn't know about the "previous episode" list before.

I've been seeing some unreliable data from Schedules Direct lately. I know it's not their fault, but in the data they receive.

Many new episodes have just generic info, without original air date, so shows are not picked up as new. Another (The Daily Show) has original air date in the future, so the repeats the following day get picked up as new. I havn't looked deeper into the episode codes.
What, me worry?

That is definitely the case for (USA) Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block. Although things got better when I started filling out lineup bugs at Schedules Direct and Tribune Media (zap2it.com). As a matter of fact, the reason I'm paying such close attention to this is because the EPG data was so bad for a few weeks, that I resorted to manual recordings dictated by the schedule at adultswim.com .

But that problem isn't causing my current woes; my EPG is consistent with adultswim.com.

Thanks for the reply!

Ran that option, updated the EPG manually, and the two episodes got picked up in Pending Recordings as expected.

Thanks for the tip!

sub, when are episodes normally removed from the recent list, i.e. not forced through -removehistory?

Each day with the system EPG update it removes any recent recording history older than x days, where x is defined in the <RetainedPreviousEpisodeDays> setting in config.xml. The default is 40 days.
