MLPanel Screen Saver (second) Beta release.

From the wiki:

An alternative to the Standard Screensaver which can display album art, music information, pictures of your choice, or just the time if you so choose plus heaps more. There are seventy two (yes that’s right 72) different views to choose from (24 ‘small text’, 24 ‘normal text’ & 24 ‘large text’ views) ranging from just displaying the “Day, Date, Time” while not playing any music through to displaying all sorts of music information while playing music. You can also have a picture slide show either random or in order displaying pictures from folders/directories of your choice either random or in order (while playing or not playing music). And it’s fun… Not to mention the incredible WAF (wife approval factor) that seems to go with it.

New for this version:

To be honest there are so many things we just can't remember them all......for those of you that "have tried/use" the first Beta version it is worth having a look/upgrading to this version, for those of you that haven't tried it we would highly recommend you give it a try even if only (like us) you would prefer to have the "Day - Date - Time" for your standard screen saver. (it's easy to un-install if you don't like it)

Wow, this is great. I was one of the first alpha testers. Unfortunately that version repeatedly crashed my installation, so unfortunately I had to stop participating in the tests.
Quite a bit of progress has been made since then. Some of the views even shows my favourite composer field! This one is going to stay. Many thanks for your good work.

Thanks for the feedback - Jaggy and I are having lots of fun working on this project and it's great to hear that someone else is enjoying it too.

Your Welcome. Smile
I have not tried out the latest version I got as thorough as I would have wanted. A reinstallation of the MediaPC came in between... But it IS an awsome plugin! As I mostly uses GBpvr to two things, listening to music and watching movies. This has made the first of them so much more enjoyable. And the wife is more eager to use it as the slideshow shows pictures she hasn't seen for a while.

It's a great job you've done so far.

Sorry Jaggy/ACTCMS that I had to take a break in beta testing but with all the other things going on I couldn't finalize all I needed to do to get this too work with the PCH.

I really liked what I saw and PCH users who need a screen saver could really be pleased. It is so much nicer than a bag of popcorn.

So far I like it, very nice. Is there a way to show all photos in the folders and subfolders randomly? I've been playing with it and can change subfolders, but I was trying to show all the photos randomly without having to change folders.

The default behaviour is to randomise all valid photo folders, then scroll through them one at a time, showing the contents in random order - which gives a fair amount of randomnessSmile. I'll add a complete collection random feature to the wish list though.

I would be interested to know how many folders you have and roughly how many photos in each.

Lots. Geek that I am, and with 4 kids, I've been creating quarterly folders by year, plus a holiday folder, unless there is a special event like a wedding that requires a separate folder. But I have a lot of old folders pre-digital days with random numbers of scans. Explorer shows 187 folders, with 9,641 files, some of the files, say 10%, will be mpg's from my digital camera. More recent folders like 2008 Spring and 2008 Summer had ~200 pictures.

As an aside, I don't know how it was done, but the Screen Saver plug-in randomizes all the photos in all folders perfectly. My only beef with that one is it always starts on the same photo.

Thanks for that - it's useful to know - Beats my 182/4000+ (although I'm not even half way through scanning my negatives)... I store my scans in a separate folder for each 'spool' of film and my digital camera ones by month/occasion.

Mrs ACTCMS likes the random folder/sequential photo mode - she just scrolls through folders till she finds one she fancies.

I suppose it would be too picky of me to suggest that the image handling module be updated to allow dispay of RAW images, rather than just JPEGs? Smile
