This has been bugging me for a while...just not enough for me to get around to doing anything about...

On some channels (France 3 on DVB-S and I think Dave on uk freeview) I have a black border all the way round the screen, F7 doesnt fix it, auto and pillarbox give the same result (border all round) and fill gives everyone fat heads. If I press crtl+o it tells me the stream is 544x576.

I should add that my screen is a widescreen 720p LCD with the correct setting in config and I'm using EVR + ati mpeg. Is there anyway to get rid of the borders?

Dave is one of the only UK channels still broadcasting a 4:3 picture (Virgin1 changed to 16:9 ealier this year). So to stretch it to fill your widescreen, I don't think there is any option other than them having fat heads!
The 16:9 channels are usually 1024*768

If you can switch to one of the VMR9 renderers, you can create an <AspectRatioMode> with a negative number to fill your screen. See my thread here:

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=38820

I ended up with -0.15,0,1.15,1 for my sitaution, but yours is probably different.

If you have to (or want to) stick to EVR, then tough luck, no negative aspect ratio support.

Yeah, I think I'd have stuck with EVR if it was only a few channels for me, 'cause EVR's got creamy goodness. But on my side of the pond, many channels have gone 16:9 broadcast yet still show alot of 4:3 shows. That'd be fine on a 16:9 TV, but on a 4:3 tv it looks a little silly. It reduces my 61" big screen down to about 30" or so... hello 1990! No man (or woman) is willing to give up that many inches!

The really ridiculous sight is when the 16:9 HD channel shows commercial breaks in 4:3, and then the individual commercial is showing something like a letter-boxed movie trailer - so you get a 16:9 letter box inside a 4:3 frame inside a 16:9 letterbox in a 4:3 tv screen... you can imagine how dumb it looks.
