I just replaced my old D-Link DI-524 wireless router which worked via a wireless connection with my MVP for several years but it was beginning to have hang-up issues, so I replaced it with a new D-Link DIR-628 router.

My wireless MVP "sees" the DIR-628 router but the router won't assign an IP address to the MVP.

I have the router configured to only use WEP to satisfy the MVP and the router is working properly with the other five things (three wired, two wireless) on my network.

Is anybody else successfully using this wireless router with the MVP?

Thanks

The MVP's wireless card is very picky and doesn't like anything beyond the standard. You need to turn off settings for QoS or Multimedia extensions.

Thanks Martin.

I turned off the QoS function in the router but it still won't assign an IP address to the MVP.

I didn't see anything about 'multimedia extensions' in the router manual, so I'd assume this isn't a problem.

WMM is already off. What about UPnP? The router has it enabled.

Martin, thanks for your almost real-time replies.

Hey Rscheller -

I have a dlink DIR-615, and I had a similar problem. I think I had to turn off "wifi protected setup" before my MVP was able to connect & acquire an IP address.

Thanks Dave_C... yea, that's one of the first things I've tried.

I'm still chipping away at options. There's gotta be something I'm missing.

Finally got it.

I went to the D-Link website and saw there was a newer firmware version than the one the router came with and after upgrading the firmware, the MVP was assigned an IP address and all works well.

Thanks

Well, after getting the new DIR-628 router to assign an IP address to the MVP, I started having minor video stuttering along with MVP crashing about every five minutes.

I tried almost every radio channel on the router and generally the signal strength appears to be as good if not better than the replaced DI-524 router.

I'm just gonna return this DIR-628 and get a different router... perhaps a Linksys WRT54G2.

Any comments or suggestions?

At the risk of making an irrelevant observation, I use the DIR-628 as an access point only, not a router, on the 5 GHz band (802.11a), and it works very well with playing back videos using a network share to a PC one floor up (about 20 feet away). It is not quite perfect with HD (1080i), but it is better than any of the 802.11g MIMO/Draft N access points I have tried, though I don't have a Draft N wireless card in that PC yet. And I have recorded HD videos on that PC with GB-PVR from my HDHomeRun over the wireless network too (all with WPA2 security), so the problem you are having must be just with the wireless on the MediaMVP.
