1.37 has been up here for just a few days. Two recordings, both docs from different series carried on U.S. PBS, are reduced to about 80% while preserving aspect ratio. The border is black. The gb-pvr "controls" are also proportionately reduced.

Other programs display just fine.

I wonder if this is due to some misinterpretation to the metadata that was recently added? Can this feature be disabled?

Nothing has changed in this respect.

What device did you use to record these? Was it a digital or analog recording? If you press F7, can you correct tha aspect ratio?

If you have black bars on all four sides, do you have a 4:3 TV (or have it set as 4:3 in the config app)?

Digital, BDA, Hauppage 1250, VMR9 full screen exclusive

The aspect ratio is actually correct. The picture is proportionally reduced. F7 does not provide a solution, although one of the toggles makes it a 4:3 full top to bottom, which is not correct.

It's a 16:9 Philips 48" HD set, 1080p. Set up in config as 16:9

I have never seen this before. I have 700 gB of recordings previous to the 1.37 install, and cannot find an example of this. This is what suggests to me it's in the metadata.

Nothing has changed, and there has been no other reports of problems.

Can you F7 to the aspect ratio you want?

Unfortunately, no. The aspect ratio is perfect. It's the size that's off.

There is definitely nothing thats changed.

Do any of the F7 modes give you the "size" you're looking for?

Try viewing one of these files, then post you pvrx2.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

I think I've just uploaded one as a .rar attachement. The board procedure is a bit unfamiliar to meWink

You should have PVRX2.exe-native.rar

Further note: It may be that the picture is displaying in a 1280x720 subraster.

The Philips indicates it is receiving a 1080 signal, but the picture is embedded in a subraster.

Can you also post a screenshot?

Have you tried other video decoders?

I've attached screenshots for "VMR9 fullscreen exclusive", and VMR9 custom, with the player in a window.

"Overlay Manager" plays, with the same defect, but it doesn't copy to the clipboard.

EVR does not show video.

In the recorded clip, there is a brief, perhaps 1/2 second insertion by the station of a 4x3 logo card. The picture then collapses to what you see in the screenshots.

That's more or less the same problem I'm going on about in my thread 'aspect ratios with negative numbers ignored'. I don't think your issue is anything new in 1.3.7. I think prior versions had more <AspectRatioModes> pre-defined for the 16x9/16x10 TV's though (edit: though I don't think any of them would have fixed this particular issue either).

What you're seeing is a 16:9 image letterboxed into a 4:3 frame, which was then broadcast on a 16:9 channel. By default, it gets displayed like that because it's all part of the broadcast. (edit: as far as I know, if you tuned the same channel directly on your TV, it would look the same unless the TV has some sort of frame/black-bar detection and zooms in for you)

I've seen the same thing a few times, but that particular effect isn't common on actual shows. I see it quite alot on commercials though - letterboxed commercials formatted for 4:3 broadcast on a 16:9 channel. But no one cares about commercials.

Since you're using VMR9, you can add a new AspectRatioMode to your config.xml with negative numbers that will zoom the whole thing, cropping out the black areas.

Something like:

<AspectRatioMode name="LetterBoxZoom" ratio="-0.15,-0.15,1.15,1.15" />

Note, I'm not saying those numbers will be exactly what you need, but that will move things in the right direction. That combination of numbers does a linear 15% zoom (or maybe it's 30%, 15% each way?).
