Wiz Metadata Grabber

Forgive me if I'm being an idiot here, but I'm not entirely sure what this is supposed to do or whether I'm using it correctly.

I pointed the metadata grabber at a directory in my video library containing episodes of '30 Rock', the program chuntered away for a long time but I can't find any evidence of it having done anything when I browse the directroy in GBPVR.

Do I need to format my filenames in a particular way, or tell the program what the format is?

Currently they are all formatted like: 30 Rock 104 Jack The Writer.avi

I am not overly familiar with wiz metadata but it would be hard to tell season / episode number with any format like that - perhaps rename it like 30 Rock.s01e04.Jack The Writer -
VidImport would pull the description from TVRage if it was written like that.

Or not, having formatted the filenames in a couple of supported ways e.g.
30 Rock [104]-Jack The Writer.avi
Dexter-Crocodile.avi

I'm still getting no result and the log file reports that the show titles aren't found.

Can anyone shed any light on what's going wrong here?

Also, in the thread I linked to there's talk of using | in the filename. Windows won't allow me to use this character in filenames, so what's going on there?

The program will attempt to determine how to get metadata for the file as loosely described below:

1) Look in the GBPVR db to see if it is a recent recording with EPG info, if so, cache EPG info
2) Parse filename and attempt to determine Show name or Series/Episode name.
3) If it looks like Series/Episode, lookup entry on TheTvDb.com
4) If not found, or not Series Episode, lookup entry on IMDB.com
5) If not found on either internet lookup, use EPG data if available

There is a log that gets generated in the gbpvr/logs directory that may provide some insight as to what the filename translation looks like.

It looks to me like it is correctly identifyins series name "Dexter" and episode name "Crocodile", and this does appear in thetvdb.com database, so what's going wrong?

I've made some logging changes and some changes to the lookup routines. Try this version and see if it helps. If not, post your logs and I'll take a look.

I'm getting some data returned from imdb but still nothing from thetvdb.
