Is there a way to change the default one button record quality to high from medium?

You can edit the medium quality profile to set whatever your preferred bitrate/resolution etc.

edit your capture source, and on the recording plugin, click settings. It's at the bottom of the screen which pops up.

I think I tried that previously. It doesn't "remember" the setting. After exiting config, I open tv guide and click a program. When I do quick record the quality is still medium.

The NAME is medium - but you have modified the settings for a medium recording. I believe, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong, you can edit the go.ini file, find the section [NTSC-LiveTV Quality] and you can change the live TV buffer quality there for good, and not mess with changing the medium recording settings. You could make them match the high quality settings.

[NTSC-LiveTV Quality]
VideoResolution=720 x 480
TargetBitrate=5000000
DvdCompliant=0
VideoCompression=1
AudioSampleRate=48000
AudioSampleBits=16
AudioChannels=2

I think that will work. Changing these settings will mean that even though quick record shows medium it will record high quality. Better to fool the computer than me!!
Thanks!

We were both wrong. I tried both the TV quality and high quality settings under the medium [NTSC-Medium Quality] in go and did a quick record each time. I checked the file sizes against a file I had done previously as high quality. Each time the quick record gave me a file around 930kb. The high quality file is around 1.4gb. So, I believe the quick record must be picking up quality settings from a file other than go.

[NTSC-High Quality]
VideoResolution=720 x 480
TargetBitrate=3000000
DvdCompliant=0
VideoCompression=3
AudioSampleRate=48000
AudioChannels=2
AudioSampleBits=16

and

[NTSC-LiveTV Quality]
VideoResolution=720 x 480
TargetBitrate=5000000
DvdCompliant=0
VideoCompression=1
AudioSampleRate=48000
AudioSampleBits=16
AudioChannels=2

Mike,
I believe I found the solution. I think it pulls the configuration from the direct.ini file. I set the medium quality indicators as the high values:
BitRate=5500
BitRatePeak=9000

I tested the quick record and my file sizes are the same I get as I get when I record on high quality.

You put me onto the way to track it down. Thanks!
