Hi, another minor point, but I've only noticed recently.

I use scheduled recordings. When I watch the show I just watch them on a laptop directly from a share. The recording device is a PVR350 (analogue).

What I've noticed for recent shows (over the last year - just catching up) is that the recording itself has a jump / stutter / skip in it. What I mean is imagine a scene, suddenly its goes in super fast mode and back to normal. The result is like its only recording a few frames over the few seconds.

I've checked the recordings a few times to check and it always skips at the same point. Over one hour it happens at one or maybe 2 points (never in the commercials or music intros!).

Any ideas? - Oh yes I used to run 0.99.5 and now 1.2.xx. So I don't think its GBPVR related.

Haven't changed since installing

1.18.21.22266 (2004).

As far as I know, I've never had the problem previously.

Also no virus checker on the machine or firewall to interfere.

Did that card have the timebase issue that PVR150's had?

Why don't you at least see if there are updated drivers.

I don't believe that the 350 had TimeStamp issues like the 150/500 had, still upgraded drivers is always good.

You should also look into what version of Quartz.dll you are using. Replacing it is on the wiki. Quartz, can affect playback stutter, but won't be have to do with the recording of a file.

I would see whether your file can be Re-Timed, getting the sprockets re punched. If the video gets fixed, then it's quite possible you have a TimeStamp problem coming from somewhere. It just might not be from the 150/500 drivers. Being older recordings, it's hard to know when it started or whether it's still happening. Check that too...

Sometimes, your recording will actually have unrecoverable holes in it, and that might be from your recording computer being unresponsive for that moment, the Hard drive being over worked, fragmentation or something else that prevents a normal flow of data from the card to the hard drive...

So if you can retime, then you may want to set up a batch retime thing, to straighten out all the remaining recordings...

What OS are you running? If WinXP, SP3 installs the updated quartz.dl file

Not to say that I know if the quartz that comes with sp3 is good or not, but 'updated' is not necessarily preferable.

For example, many people have the quartz problem when they have the 9.0c version installed and the fix is to replace with the 9.0b quartz. There is a trick or two to keep it that way, as MS likes to keep throwing out updates that replaces it back. And the struggle continues...

I have my Windows Update set to auto, and every so often I get a rude awakening that it's time to downgrade the quartz again. Ppicture is a mess and stutters more then Mel Tillis.

Then I manuallly update Windows, WU tells me there's a new update (which is the damn 9.0c quartz.dll() I say 'no thanks and don't ask me again', and then I'm clear until the next update...

right okay thanks, a bit to check and try there. I don't have auto update on that computer, pretty much like a stable box. But that's not to say something perhaps has been updated by mistake - I mean it's happened on recordings from about a year ago to now. Who knows what I might have done a year ago that's caused this, when it was working fine previously.

I'll try the least dangerous ones first Smile
