If you've been holding off purchasing AnyDVD or AnyDVD HD, now would be a good time to do it. They are doing away with there free lifetime updates and moving to an annual subscription plan. All purchases made before the change will continue to receive the free lifetime updates.

Antigua, West Indies - December, 1st 2008

SlySoft announces new update policy

Since Slysoft's beginnings in 2003, all Slysoft product licenses have
been sold with free product lifetime updates included. While standards,
technologies and SlySoft's product range have changed significantly
since 2003, only now has Slysoft's free lifetime update policy been
reviewed with respect to converting to an annual subscription fee format
for new license purchases.

According to SlySoft CEO Giancarlo Bettini, this change is justified and
will ensure first class products and future development:
"Our portfolio already contains eight products, and there is another
program in the pipeline. Each product is continuously being enhanced by
first-class developers; each product gets 24/7 top-notch multilingual
support. Our premises became a bit crowded in the last couple of years,
and, to be honest, we may not have reached our limits yet. Something
needs to be done in order to not only ensure Slysoft's continued
commitment to excellence but to also promote future improvements:
namely, growth and development. With respect to current financial
challenges the current economy presents, modifying our update policy
seems to be the only fair and reasonable step in lieu of a substantial
price increase. Details are yet to be determined and will follow."

In fairness, SlySoft announces this probable step well in advance of its
implementation in order to provide all interested parties with the
opportunity to purchase SlySoft products with guaranteed lifetime free
updates. Those buyers who act quickly during this time can also save an
additional 20% with the special ongoing Christmas promotion.

Thanks for the heads up! Been on the fence re getting this software and am tempted but wonder what is the difference in AnyDVD and DVD43 (other than the fact that AnyDVD has the HD option). Thoughts?

Sorry, I don't know. I really only use it to fix compatibility issues with BD titles.

I spent a while trying to decide if to pay for this software or not but decided to give it a go as I wanted to make my PVR region free and wasn't sure about firmware updates for the BluRay drive. I've been very happy with the software, it works perfectly for any DVD I've put in. I only have local region BluRays so dunno if that works so well but I'm sure it does.

If anyone is still on the fence with the decision to get this or not, here's a little incentive:

I should have a beta ready by the end of the week (hopefully sooner).

What's working:
  • Playback of EVO (HDDVD) and M2TS (Bluray) files.
  • Playback of Bluray ISOs and folder structures.
  • Playback of DVD ISOs, discs and folder structures.
  • Playback of Bluray discs and folder structures.*
  • Displays posters and/or media type.
  • Streaming of discs from a networked BD/HDDVD/DVDROM drive.* (Yes you read that correctly.)
  • Full bitrate audio for TrueHD. (DTS-MA/HD is DTS Core only.)

*Will play main movie only from Bluray discs and folder structures.

Second image is Wanted (Bluray) playing on the laptop from the disc is in the main HTPC.

The beta won't be polished but it will be usable. I also won't be adding a lot of features to the release. I figure that there are plenty of video plugins already and they could incorporate the functionality easier and faster than I can incorporate their extras like IMDB lookup, etc.

Sounds excellent! From the bluray iso thread in the support group, I've never been too happy about my PDVD customer task and dont think it's overly wife friendly...

whurlston - this would be awesome! Qs - would this plugin and (all or some of) its functionality be available if I am using PCH as front end or does it only work if the GBPVR PC is directly hooked up to the TV? Not sure if this is the right forum/thread for this question but I couldnt find a thread for the plugin.

Thanks,

I haven't tested the PCH side of things yet, so I don't know if it can play any of the files. I may need to add support for mkv rips for that, I just don't know yet.

I've actually released an extreme alpha at http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=39578
