Even though I am a happy, and primarily "passive", user of gbpvr - I am sometimes interested in learning in new functionality in this excellent piece of software. My home setup as of today is multiple PCConfused connected through a router to multiple XboxConfused (XBMC), with two external HDConfused (sort of basic file servers). One of the PCConfused is equipped with a Hauppauge HVR-1300, through which I record TV-shows, storing them on either the very PC on which they were recorded, or on an external (NW connected) HD.
All-in-all this setup is works excellent and I am actually investing in yet another old gen. Xbox for a fourth TV set (no, we are yet not in HD territory – and a used Xbox is extremely cheap…..).
What I am however interested in is the Multi-record support that in some way should be available through the usage of TS Mux BDA Multiplexer, but I totally fail in understanding on how to set it up. From my perspective (after a lot of searches) there is nothing in the wiki, and nothing useful (from the newbie perspective) in to forum?
Just simply selecting the TS Mux option in the Misc 2 tab just ends up in 0 byte files, and I am guessing I am making some mistake sine I have stumbled across a lot of posts mentioning - Filesharing? – what is the connection to Multi-Record?
All-in-all, I am extremely satisfied with the simple, yet functional, way I am using gbpvr – and I feel another donation might be on it’s way – but how could I learn more on Multi-record?

All you need to do is selected the 'TS Mux' option and tick the 'enable multi-record' tickbox. If its not working for you, try doing a recording then zip and attach a log and I'll take a look.

There is no connection. You would have seen some posts saying that if you're using client/server setup with the TS Mux, then you need to use the File Sharing option instead of the Streaming option. ie, if you're not doing PC GB-PVR clients, then you dont need to worry about it.

Will do. But I am guessing that the problem is not code relater, rather user related......

Thanks for your assistance - and for your devotion!

OK. I scheduled a 10 min recording - but it is still running - and I attach the logs (not really sure which ones are of interest though). Scenario wise I scheduled a recording between 00:00 - 00:06, (cancelling a 10 minute recording).

I am, however quite sure there is a mistake on my side, since I am not able to record anything by the TS Mux option.

I cant see any sign of obvious errors in those logs. Did that recording end up zero bytes long?

Does the dvr-ms mux result in working recordings?

As for Q1: Yes, it was an empty file
As for Q2: All other recordings work fine, i.e using Cyberlink demuxers etc.

Sorry, uncomfortably drunk ATM - will get back tomorrow.....

And - again - thanks for an excellent piece of software!

OK - back to normal standards.

Perhaps my basic question (not yet asked) might help me (and others):

What is the difference between an MPG file and a TS dito?

Sorry for perhaps asking newbie QConfused, but I am sure there are other guys, that have failed to find this section in the WiKi, nor is there anything really usfeul to be found in the forum.

A TS file contains a transport stream. A MPG file contains a program stream. They effectively the same thing (a video stream, one or more audio streams, and some meta data), but a transport stream is broken into small 188 byte packets, to help with broadcast situations. The timing information is stored slightly differently in TS vs MPG.

OK - No offense - but the way I see things:

Pro MPG:
MPG - compatible with most replay devices (DVDConfused etc)
MPG - Editable through a lot of softwares (removing commercials etc.)

Pro TS:
?

Though - I am still on a level where I can only collect 0Mb streams from TS-streams.......

.ts files have several advantages over .mpg files:

- is the native format used for broadcasts, so no remuxing required to record channels and a lot less that can go wrong. (mux filters cause lots of timing issues)
- is able to contain the latest broadcast formats (H.264, AAC, DTS etc).
- is able to store more informations streams in the recordings (multiple audio streams, DVB Subtitles, CC, Teletext etc)
- multi-record is possible
- is becoming very common, as the basis of digital TV and blu-ray. Lots of apps are starting to support transport streams, and you'll find more do every day...

If you have another go recording with the TS Mux, and post the logs, I'll take another look.
