I'm using a laptop, HVR-950, an external USB disk, (for recordings) and GBPVR 1.3.7 for a portable PVR I take on the road with me. I had several (>15) recordings ready to watch when I shutdown the notebook, disconnected the external disk, and went to a jobsite. When I got back to my room I plugged the external disk back in, powered up the lappy, and voila... no more recordings ready to watch. All the scheduled ones are still in there, just nothing new or ready.

If I wasn't in a hurry, a db export would have been nice. Never thought of it as I've done this before on previous versions of GBPVR. But this still doesn't seem like expected behavior. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and Happy New Year!

If you are lucky you have a recordingsdump.xml in your gbpvr-dir, it contains all the recordings that were there when you last updated your EPG. You can import them again through gbpvr-config-plugins-import recordings.
They probably disappeared when the GBPVR-recordingservice couldn't find the recordings. Maybe during startup or during closing down when you disconnected the external drive. You can prevent this from happening by changing the following entry in config.xml to false:

Code:
<AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>true</AutoRemoveMissingRecordings

Make a backup of the config.xml first, before you open it with notepad.

Yes, I have that set to false all the time now as a "fail-safe". For plug-in and network drives I think it is almost essential.

A possible 'wishlist' item would be for an option for the recordingservice to not do this cleanup routine if the drive itself was not available??

There was a current file and a bak file. I now have the recordings available again! WOOHOO!

Excellent tip. Thank you much for the quick reply and excellent advice.

Along these lines, is there any way to reimport recordings based on file names? I know most of the fields, such as the show descriptions, would be blank. I accidentally did something along these lines and have a lot of recordings that aren't in the database anymore. I ended up just adding the Recordings directory to my video library and watch the "before my mistake" recordings that way.

Have a lok on the wiki at vidimport http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/VidImport

You might be lucky enough that it will find the descriptions from the ntfs alternate datastream|
