Hey all, I have a question. When something's recorded, its filename is usually something like showname_date_time_blahblah and whatnot. I was wondering if htere was any way to set the filenames to be something like ShowName - Episode Number - Episode Name, etc - maybe pulling all of the info from the tvguide for the name? I wouldn't assume it would be very hard to implement if it hasn't been already.

Thanks

Its not currently possible. Maybe in a future release.

ok, how about this? The xmltv files contain channel, show, episode, time, date, etc... wouldn't it be possible to use the filename that gbpvr generates when recording to then match the file up with its corresponding xmltv entry and rename it that way?

for instance, say you have a recording named Mission Hill_20050124_01000130.mpg

obviously the channel number is missing there, which would make it a little more difficult, but the show name, date, and time range is all there... all you'd have to do is parse that and then match it up with the xmltv file. as long as you did it soon enough that your xmltv file hadn't been replaced, I don't see why this wouldn't be possible.

I wasnt trying to be rude or ruling it out. I was just saying its not possible in the current release, but I can look into it in a future release.

It’s worth noting that only very few XMLTV grabbers supply episode number. I can only really rely on having the show name, start time and channel.

...and what about bleb users and zap2it? I've pretty much developed everything to the lowest common denominator.

oh no i didn't take it that way at all. I understand that I'm limiting my scope of thought to xmltv, but that's just because well... that's what I use so that's what I know [Image: smile.gif]

Also, I just saw that xmltv is getting ready to change their format and add ALOT of new information, including episode number/season number and alot more. You probably know that...
but anyway, here's the doc

but yeah, I mean you take what you can get, right? If all I can really access clearly enough to get the information I Need is xmltv, then I could at least get this up and running for xmltv users. I know there's no episode number right now, but it could always just do a search for the show name on the given date and given time... the chances of the same show showing at the same time on the same date on more than 1 channel is pretty slim, and it could even have a confirmation before changing the filename.

I might just start toying with this. Any help anyone can give would be appreciated.

btw I'm not really thinking of creating this as a plugin, but as a standalone application. maybe a plugin later, but I"d like ot get it working first before I start figuring out how to create plugins.

I hate to break it to you, but that new format has been sitting around gathering dust since before I started this project. At the time I started the project, I thought I should go with the new format, but nothing generates these files so I stuck with compatibility with existing XMLTV files.
