I want an option to default to Tivo-like behavior where when I'm watching live TV, it just records whatever I'm watching no matter what so that I don't have to manually start a recording in order to pause the show. It would automatically overwrite the oldest footage with the newest footage as it goes along (or at least delete the oldest footage) so that the disk space footprint remains constant. In professional DDRs this mode is called "loop recording," because it's like recording onto a single long loop of tape that's constantly bringing the oldest segment of tape under the record head to record the newest data. (8-track did this, for those who remember it).

I would also like more flexibility about watching scheduled recordings as the show is in progress. Say I get home from work halfway into a show, I want to start catching up immediately rather than having to wait till the show ends to watch it.

where's your problem? Big Grin

1. go to config & untick the option "Use Live Preview mode if possible", that way you always watch in timeshift mode (has one disadvantage: When this is checked, GB-PVR will let you channel surf quicker as it is not timeshifting)
(you can even choose to keep that recording, just press record while in timeshift mode, it will save the recording from the time you started watching till end of show or whatever you pick in the pop-up)

2. no problem either: go into the guide, select & enter the show details of your scheduled show, you'll find an play button. that will start the recording from the beginning the same way as in recordings & will even remember regarding the resume option if you stop watching & resume later from recordings

Shows that are currently being recorded also appear under "Pending" in the Recordings screen.

We (not you and I 'we', but I and those who wish it worked differently 'we') have bugged sub before to show currently recording shows in 'What's New' and 'Ready', but sub seemed pretty adamant that the way it works is the way he wants it to work, and he'll not be changing it. Fair enough, it's his program...

Logically, a currently recording show, which can be watched right now, certainly qualifies as something new and thus should be shown under "What's New".

"Pending" implies something that has not happened yet, something that will happen in the future. Something currently happening but not yet complete does satisfy the dictionary definition of Pending, but that's certainly not what the word makes me think of.

I'm running into a major problem with timeshifting mode when the OTA signal is weak... When the signal drops out during live TV it handles it reasonably well, but dropouts in timeshift mode make it try to seek forward in the recorded file on the hard drive to find uncorrupted data... The time counter at the top of the screen starts jumping forward hours at a time, far beyond the end of actual recorded material and the picture never returns, even for what should just be a momentary dropout.

open a thread in the support forum (& attach log files), maybe sub can do something to handle such situations more gracefully. otherwise only a workaround comes to mind: pause the playback for a few seconds. that way the recording file will never be at the end & should hopefully have found the signal again & gattered some data. otherwise: fix your signal dropout Big Grin (if possible...)
