What effect, if any, does this setting have?

I've tried various settings for both of my capture devices, and can see no effect on my recordings. The configuration box seems to give no indication of what the current setting is -- every time I reopen Configuration, no quality setting is visibly selected. When I select "Record" in TV Guide, the default recording quality is always "Medium", even immediately after I've selected "High" or "Low" quality in the configuration tool.

What exactly is this setting supposed to do?

Thanks.

If your doing a TS stream there probably is no impact as it would not reencode on the fly. It is probably there for analog recordings.

quality setting applies to analog only
it uses the medium setting unless you select one of the other when setting up a recording from the tv guide
changing it in config doesnt make it use that quality setting

What analog card are you using? GB-PVR isnt able to change the quality settings on some devices. Common ones, like Hauppauge cards, should have an effect.

I understand. GBPVR does change the quality on my Hauppauge card, but if I want anything other than Medium, I need to select it with each recording, not in the Configuration tool.

Thanks.

correct but you can edit the medium setting in config if you want it to default to certain bitrate etc
