I have been searching and searching the forum for a solution to this. It is a very difficult issue to solve, every now and then, my recordings play back with a hitch. This is only with hidef recordings, I am using a HVR-1600. I went over and over playback issues, thinking that was the problem, but it is not. I discovered that when it hitches (and it hitches about every 9-10 seconds throughout the recording on the damaged recording) it hitches in the exact same place if I rewind and watch that part again. I found another thread with a 30 second hitching problem, but mine does not seem to be the same thing. I have looked over my logs, but I am not seeing an issue. Could someone else please take a look? My recording last night at 7:30 to 8 (american dad) is the most recent file with this hitching issue.

Thanks!

I am just using the DVR-MS, I have heard that is the most reliable. Would you recommend trying something other then DVR-MS?

It seems sub is putting a lot of effort into the .ts mux and .ts reader these days, and a high percentage of people seem to be using it (I've never used anything else, but don't let my 'Senior Member' status fool you into thinking I'm an old-timer... I just post too much). Can't hurt to try it.

Is the recordings disk defragmented?
Could you try a test recording with the task manager open to see if there's any other process on your PC that is spiking and overwhelming the CPU?

I notice that there is very little in your log files - in the config app on the first page, is the logging level set to debug?

So if you use the same card for standard def, it does not skip at all?

I will try defragmenting, but I have not been using this drive for very long, (it happened with my other drive as well)

Edit:
Total fragmentation was 49%, I am not sure if that is good or bad, I will let that run then test again (though unfortunately I cannot make it happen).
Also, I checked to confirm that the drive is working in DMA mode, everything looks good there

I had it set to error, I put it on debug just now, I was not certain which would give more information. Is it debug to get the most information?

Standard def does not skip. I tried a test recording and watching my task manager, but it does not do it then, (the hitching), it is very frustrating because I cannot make it happen. When I record hidef, my processor does not get above 10%. I have an AMD single core 3200, and 2 gigs of ram, so I do not think my system is stretched.

Chuck from last night in 3d was also damaged Sad, I attached the logs again, but if it happens again from tonight, I should have better logs sinced I switched to debug logging mode, I also switched to force recording service high priority in the config file, hopefully the belt and suspenders approach will work

Does it skip when played with other apps: MPC, VLC, Nero Showtime, etc? IOW, is the error in the recorded file or in the playback?

I had a problem with HD recordings on my HVR1600 (SD looked fine) I tracked it down to the write speed of my hard drive. When I put in a new harddrive a while back I had used the 40 wire ide cable that was already in my computer instead of a new (much faster) 80 wire cable. Long story short check that you are getting good write speed on your harddrive as the data rate that you need increases rapidly as the resolution of the recording goes up.
