Running 1.3.11, everything -was- working fine up till a few days ago. Now when I try to watch a recording it will crash out to the recordings menu when the recording is about 50% through.

The recordings show as "ready", none show as "failed".

The first time I noticed this I was watching the super bowl. Everything was great until suddenly it crashed to the menu. So I started it up again, only to find out that while I could skip to where it crashed, it wouldn't go any farther and crashed again. I tried this 3 or 4 times. So I went to my recordings folder and checked the file size. The game was still on and according the the vista gadget it was still being recorded, but the file size was not getting any bigger. At the specified time, the "recording" stopped, and was labeled as "ready".

Same story for two other programs recently.

Is this a problem thats been encountered/solved before? I could not find anything with search.

Could installing plugins cause anything like this? I've put in the weather, cinema, and netflix plugins recently. They all work except for netflix which I disabled in config (I should probably uninstall it too). This seams improbable but I really haven't touched any settings except to add plugins.

I may as well say this too, even though it's probably not related: The whole computer freezes up now when I try to map digital channels to EPG. I found this out trying to add 1 measly channel to my lineup. Also, I can't channel surf anymore w/o a crash back to the guide. -sigh-

I'm baffled with all this, cause honestly, it was all working fantastically and I really don't think I changed anything!

I will provide logs if requested after I get home from work. I'm am leaning heavily towards a GBPVR re-install...

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log and i'll take a look.

I've not seen any other reports of it.

If the whole PC is freezing, then its most likely something driver related.

I had a similar experience with the Super Bowl where it started fine, then jumped to the 4th quarter with no way to see what happened in between even though the file was over 7Gb! Even tried watching it with WMP

Then something similar happened on an Italian League broadcast.

Standard shows still record fine, but what I noticed is that there was no comskip logo file for the Super Bowl or the Italian League match.

My theory is that the "logo" with the score and clock screws up comskip since the clock switches every second, and my comskip log actually thought the Super Bowl had 1 hr 52 minutes of commercial in one stretch.

Next time I plan to record live sports I'm going to disable postprocessing.

At least I got to watch the best part of the Super Bowl, but it made for a short night of entertainment!

Well, I don't have comskip set up on my system so I don't think that is what caused the problem. (comskip is checked in config, but I have not installed the files. That means it's disabled, right?) [EDIT: I wrote the above before I looked at my logs. Every time before playback freezes up there is a MoveToNextCommercialSkipPoint() callout in the PVRX2.exe.log. Maybe there is something to this theory???]

Sub, I recorded some more shows today to try and reproduce the problem. I'm happy (?) to say that I was unsuccessful reproducing the problem. But maybe you can still tell me why my super bowl recording is whack.

I've attached the logs of the last time I tried to watch it. Turns out it only recorded something like 1:25:00 of the game, even though my tuner status showed it recording for the full 4 hours or whatever. But I can't even watch it to the end of what is recorded, it crashes out or freezes up when it gets close to 1:15:02. -sigh-

Let me know if you see any smoking guns in these logs (I suspect there isn't).

Thanks.

To be honest, its pretty hard to guess. I'm not really sure.

I'd probably need to see the recording service logs covering the time the recording was supposed to occur so I could see if it was cancelled or stopped for some unexpected reason.

The logs do look like you have comskip files there though. Maybe check if you have a PostProcessing.bat file.

I would love to send you the recording service logs but, since everything was running fine, I had turned logging to something other than debug (can't remember which). I have 1 file for Feb 2nd, GBPVRTray.exe-1.log, but it's empty.:confused:

What does PostProcessing.bat do?

Also, I unchecked the comskip option in config>misc1, and I'm pretty sure the super bowl file played all the way to the end this time, although it didn't stop smoothly it sorta stuttered and got pixely and then went to the recordings menu.

I may just reinstall. Like I mentioned before I am crashing (whole screen goes black, computer unresponsive) when mapping digital channels, even though that worked fine a month ago; and I can no longer change channels with live preview mode turned off, even though that worked just a few days ago.

I dunno. This project is pushing my computer skills to there limits. Oh well, it's like they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Rolleyes I'll come out of this with a sweet HTPC someday. Smile

Some people have one that runs comskip. It can be used for all sort of scripted stuff though.

Just wanted to close out this thread by saying that the problem seams to have gone away on it's own. I'm wondering if watching the show while it was still recording may have caused the problem. If it happens again I will start a new thread.

Thanks!!
