Hi ...Wonder if anyone can help. I have two wired MVP units. Individually, these units work well and I can access all my stored media, however, it appears that when both units are powered up only one will be able to access this media. It could be either one that works depending upon which one is powered up first, but they will not both work together. Strangely, both will show the GBPVR GUI, but if one is connected and playing music -for example - any attempt from the other MVP to access recordings, or any other media on my media PC (where GBPVR resides) will simply cause this unit to show the Hauppauge 'Contacting server' message for a while. Usually the GUI is re-loaded shortly afterwards, but attempting to do similar operation gives same results. Original (first booted) MVP will still happily access any media that's available.
I use a router to provide DHCP for my network, and am running GBPVR v1.2.13 with standard supplied dongle.bin My desktop Zonealarm firewall has during tests been disabled to see if this was causing issues, but no difference.
I have attached my GBPVR logs, and also a screen shot of a Net runtime 2.0 application event error (left in Logs zip)that seems to be generated when the above situation arises .
Thanks in advance if anyone can help

It looks like you are having network troubles. In one log it looks like dongle.bin failed to load via and I assuming you have a newer revision H MVP and it loaded the dongle from flash wish is not the best with GBPVR

Martin, Thanks for your reply. Yes, MVP are H2 and H3 revision models, the strange thing is that, if either one is switched off, then the other works fine, but not together. Plugging both MVP's straight into the back of the router - to bypass my cabling - still gives same problem. Is there anything in the router settings that might be a likely culprit ? I know that both MVP are in the active routing table on my router and appear to be allocated IP addresses, but I seem to remmember reading one of your posts that another IP request is made during MVP startup; is this correct ?

It doesn't request another IP, it request the IP a second time. Maybe try to autostart 3 servers and see if a network error is causing a server to delay start.

Just thought i'd post a closure after finally getting this sorted out Smile ...... after seeing the last post , I decided to go back and have another hard look at my network. I used a network cabling tester and found two of my CAT5 cables had twists in them (1 to 3, 2 to 6 and 3 to 1 and 6 to 2, same twists on both faulty cables) one was the mediaPC with GBPVR installed, and the other was one of the MVP cables. After this was sorted - I've had no further problems - what threw me was the fact that each MVP would work individually, and indeed the mediaPC seemed to work fine also.
So, thanks for pointing me back in the right direction Martin.

Those aren't faulty cables, they are cross-cables. They are/were used to connect two computers or as a connection from a modem to a computer/router.
In a lot of situations you can use these nowadays because a lot of hardware is "auto-sensing". The hardware recognises the sort off cable being used and adapts to that automagically.

Sorry to disagree, but they were faulty cables 'cause when I put the original cabling in (under the floor) and subsequently wired up the RJ45 boxes I didn't intentionally cross wire them. My mistake you see :o. Never mind... as indicated in my earlier post - all sorted now. I just thought I'd post up what was actually wrong in case anyone else has a similar problem.

When you made the cables you probably mixed up the 2 protocols that are used: T568-A and T568-B.
If you use A on one end and B on the other you get a crosscable. A and B only differ in having the orange/orange-white and the green/green-white pair switched. = pin 1, 2 and pin 3, 6.
