I have recently bought a new EEE box PC to use as a client for recordings/movies playback and I have been playing around with GBPVR to make this work (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=41092)

I have not been successful in achieving my goal so far. I have two tuners, analog (sat dish) and ATSC (Broadcast HD). I cannot run two instances of GBPVR on the same box, so I am now looking for other PC software-based client options that can run alongside GBPVR (I am not giving up on GBPVR on the main machine) that may allow me to stream LiveTv for both mpg and ATSC sources.

I am aware of mediaportal and other HTPC packages, but I am looking for advice from those who might have tried these options with similar needs as mine.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

hmm,i have no problem streaming both mpg and .ts in both sd and hd tuners...
i use the ati mpg mux...rock solid, never a failure yet...
the cyberlink should be ok if you have the right one..all the ati ones are good so far here in U.S...if you want ati mux you can dl on ati page, pick a good radeon and go to downloads, and then go to indiviual component downloads, and get the Avivo download...it should install..
[if not, there's a copy of an old atidvcr.dll around here somewhere..]

using Wireless? what kind of net?
does your eee box have the dual core 330?
how well does it play a local HD file from internal harddrive?
using what mode? [vmr9? evr?] i suggest evr on that intel video..
using ntsc?
XP? Vista?
tried dxvachecker yet?

i get perfect results with .mpg output with streaming mode..
only bluerays give me slight stutters over a wireless g connection..Smile
and now also get perfect results with .ts output as well...Smile
you may have router issues or other network throughput problems..

one problem with that eee box is it's just barely enough grunt to do hd..i only was successfull using evr mode..
tho i think i can get it going with new ffdshow as well in vmr9 fullscreen mode...
i'm waiting for the new eee box that will have dual core and ati HD3450..Big Grin

Thanks for the long response. I really want to make it work on GBPVR. To start with, I made sure that I can play all files locally without a problem. Next I tried the different scenarios described in the post. I am doing my testing with a wired network, so network throughput is not the issue (I tested speed outside gbpvr) Here is my client setup:

- WinXP Pro SP3
- N270 atom processor
- I am using vmr9 custom with Nvidia purvideo (cyberlink did not work for whatever reason)
- ATSC and analog through s-video on the server

My biggest issue is liveTV streaming from both tuners, I cannot have one setup that support both (streaming is good for analog mpg and fileshare is good for HD TS)

I have tried TS and Cyberlink mux and both work fine along with dvr-ms on the server, the must has no impact on the client.

Do you do LiveTV often?

I am wondering if there is a way to have pvr-150 record to ts files instead, maybe then I can stream both successfully.

hmmm,i have no problem with livetv...mostly what i use it for...Smile
might wanna try ffdshow beta6...it does great software decode on cards which don't have hardware help...
i don't use sp3 cuz it includes parts of Vista.. but it shouldn't affect you like this...
definitely try vmr9 fullscreen mode..i can't get anything to work perfectly without it...
[or evr which is really easy on cpu]

there's no reason both hd and sd can't work over streaming...mpg works well for both. ts almost as well,[skips a bit clunkier] and i have almost same source setup but i have multiple atsc tuners w/analog sat. over svideo...10/100 is fine for both using streaming...even wireless g..

i'd definitely try different decoders, file playback from within video library should be flawless in either mode, it's literally just playing the file as it would locally, but from your network..
so if that doesn't work smoothly, then i'd look at network...

otherwise i'd try a different mux...some cyberlink versions can be flaky..
pretty sure mux only changes digital tv streams, analog mux is built into hardware...

I have given up on steaming HD content. I am currently using FFDSHOW with EVR to playback everything, it is the only decoder that will not give me black screen with some HD recordings. But it does not do dxva with my intel board.

I tried your suggestion and downloaded ATI avivo (I have GMA 950) and tried to use ati mpeg2 decoder, but all I got is blank screen regardless of the file content (HD or SD).

What is weird and is driving me crazy is playback from video library for mpg and ts file starts with some hiccups and some sound drops, while playing the same file with FFDSHOW in WMP is flawless using the same network connection. That just points to something being wrong with GBPVR.

Here is my dxvachecker output (next post), I just do not now how to best utilize my intel graphics capabilities

This thread has a patch that might enable .ts playback with sharing mode clients: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=41092
