I posted over in Hardware also, but maybe someone over here has some ideas too --

I have been having issues with my (HD) recordings skipping around a lot, randomly freezing, and being altogether crappy, as well as from time to time still getting the crazy timeline issue (I've applied all known patches). I fed one into TS Doctor and I have LOTS of missing packets. I checked my OTA signal strength and everything looks just fine there... is it possible I'm losing packets due to a small cache on my hard drive? It's not happening on EVERY recording, probably about 75% of them though.

Anything I download plays back perfectly, so I'm wondering if my hard drive is having a hard time writing all the data it's getting while recording...? My current hard drive has an 8mb cache - will a 32mb get me to where I need to be? Any thoughts are appreciated....

I would zip and attached you logs from the devnz/gbpvr folder so others can take a look. Also wondering if you have tried sofware Happuages wintv to see if you get similar recording, this may deterime if its a software or hardware issue. Also may be worthwhile checking to see if other drivers would help, but to be honest it sounds like a signal issue, is this OTA/QAM/Analog feed?

It is OTA, I can do QAM as well, but signal strength is a little weaker... I will give WinTV a spin and also post my logs this evening, good call.

Is live tv ok on those channels?

Does WinTV produce good recordings on those channels?

Also check if it makes any difference if you use the TS Mux vs DVR-MS Mux.

For some odd reason DVR-MS doesn't work for me - I get blank recordings... TS or Cyberlink have worked for me though

See if the problem is present with both of those then.

I've had the same problem just this week, but only with 1 channel (C4 DVB in NZ).

I recorded 2 episodes of The Daily Show this week that both froze, stuttered and skipped ahead. On the same day (about the same time) I also recorded a show from TVNZ6 (Insiders Guide) and it played back perfectly.

When C4 misbehaved I could skip back to the same point and get a few more seconds out of it, but then it would misbehave again.

I went back to recording that off Sky because of WAF.

I didn't think to keep those broadcasts and analyse them further, but will look into it more while waiting to see what others figure out here!
