One of my two tuners got stuck recording the kids' Zula Patrol yesterday from 1:00pm to 1:30pm. The .ts file is the right size and is time-stamped correctly at 1:30pm. But this morning when I looked in 'Pending' it still said it was recording Zula Patrol, and no other recording since then (on either tuner) had occurred.

recording service logs attached (the -1 logs cover the period in question), though they don't say much of interest...

there aren't even entries that say something to the effect of "trying to start recording, but the tuner is busy". it just did nothing for the rest of the day and this morning until I restarted the service.

luckily none of the missed recordings are irreplaceable - either more kids' shows that record multiple times per day anyway, or a couple of weekly shows that are also available on Hulu. But it's still alarming that it can just stop working like that...

I have had the same thing happen, but only when I start recording a show I am currently watching live. This does not happen with scheduled recordings.

I've had the same thing happen to me as well. I just usually chalked it up to the PC needed to be restarted as it is up an running 24/7 and this problem occurs with a good deal of time in between.

restarting the recording service itself is all I had to do to correct the problem, and it hasn't been all that long since the last time I restarted the service; I put in a custom task to run Zinc a few days ago.

also, just for clarity, the Zula Patrol recording is a regular recurring recording, not one I was watching live.

as a side note, for anyone with young kids I highly recommend Zula Patrol. It's explicitly educational, teaching kids about the solar system, wind, water, elements, etc., yet it's quite fun. My 5 year old girl and 6 year old boy both love it, they watch mesmerized. My boy often comes and tells me things he learned while watching. Sometimes the damned song gets stuck in my head though, but that's a risk I have to take I guess.

This has happened to me before, and again tonight. In my case I think the computer goes to sleep before the recording service has time to detach itself from the recording.
Do you have your server set to go into standby?

I'll chime in and say that this happens to me too, with the latest GB-PVR release. But my tuner is an HDHomerun, and I know that it has some issues by itself, which has kept me quiet till now. In my case the tuner seems to get out of sync with GB-PVR: the tuner's lights indicate that nothing is being recorded (neither tuner active) but the GB-PVR tray icon is green and the tuner status window usually shows a reference to recording a show many hours in the past. Even if the HDHomerun goes insane, I would think that the GB-PVR recording service would sense time passing and not still be trying to record a 1 PM show at 9 PM. As has been mentioned earlier in the thread, restarting the service allows GB-PVR to then proceed, with the missed shows marked as "Failed" in the What's New screen. Usually I powercycle the HDHomerun too, so I don't have any data as to what happens if I leave it alone and just restart the service. Also worth mentioning is that when this condition occurs, it cancels my ability to record for both tuners, not just the one that is frozen. The other tuner has Sleeping status, but does nothing useful until the service is restarted. My machine is up 24x7 and this error condition occurs roughly once every two weeks.

What firmware version are you running? I used to have that issue, but Silicion Dust fixed that a release or two ago.

Check your recordingservice-native log. If you've got the same problem, you'll see the log go quiet right at the end of a recording, with no final "StopRecording() finished" message. The regular recordingservice log will continue with epg updates, scheduling, etc.
