lately I have noticed some recordings have 'bad' audio - you can hear it fine, but on 'loud' spikes it gets fuzzy sounding. This is only true for a handful of channels. Any ideas?

Maybe try a different audio decoder.

My 1600 started doing the same thing (If ti's the card in your sig). Pretty much plain and simple, the card is going bad. If you can get it RMA'd, go for it.

A work around (very temporary, as it will continue to get much worse) is to adjust the channel tuning frequencies a few khz up or down from "nominal". This helps, but it's only a bandaid on a bigger problem.

I have a 2250 now but still use the 1600 for svid/composite input and ATSC tuning. Those all still work fine. It's the actual tuner chip ont he card that takes the dive.

I contacted Hauppague as per AndyPro's advice - hoping to get an RMA since this card is less than 8 weeks old -
here is the reply:
Hello,

What application are you using? What’s your source? How are you connecting it? Sometimes reinstalling the app in a slightly different method seems to work better. Please try the following:

Download/extract the latest cd from this link : http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/...d_4.8a.zip

1. run hcwclear, check the 5th option (search all…)

a. click ok

b. click yes and wait for the black window to disappear, after its gone reboot your computer.

2. Upon rebooting the found new hardware wizard will come up, cancel it.

3. Locate/run the file called hcwdriverinstall from your download (if you’re using media center you can go configure it from here)

4. If you need/want to install wintv after its done go the CDSetup folder in the download and run the file setup.exe.

5. This will install the wintv app and place and icon for it on your desktop.

My question - is all this good advice? I would hate to blow up my installation...

Yeah, they'll have you do that. it wont blow up your installation (at least it shouldn't). You will probably have to do it just to make them happy. Within the hauppauge software There's a slider (cant remember where)... if you disable automatic fine tuning you can slide the slider back and forth a little bit to see what I meant with the frequency offset.
