Martin,

Since the upgrade (both mvpmcx2 and Subs GBPVR patches) I am no longer able to play files with hebrew charachters (basically all our kids movies :eekSmile on neither of my PCHs. I've tried both avis and mpegs but the GBPVR application freezes and requires a restart. I was able to play these files before. I have also restored to the old mvpmcx2 but to no avail. I have not restored the GBPVR updates.

The files play just fine directly from the PCHs.

If you want to try to recreate the problem you can rename any of you movies with the filename below.
Code:
תשלומים.avi

Tried to scan the logs but am not sure what to look for.

Any ideas?

It is always tough to diagnose problems without logs but my guess is that this relates to utf-8 encoding. You could try this

<MVPUseShortFilenamesOnNMT>true</MVPUseShortFilenamesOnNMT>

if you don't have it, to see if it helps

Thanks for your reply

Ill try it when I get home. If the problem remains, which logs should I review or post here?

Ok, tried your suggested change but it did not help. I did however found entries in the logs that looks suspicious (rows 2298-2316). Please have a look and see if you can find something obvious that might fix this.

GBPVR is definitely not sending shortnames, the folder names have spaces and are too long. Did you start the recording services after changing config.xml?

Note the setting is not in the MVP specific setting it is in the general group.

Martin, did some testing last night with various result. The PCH with component can now play the hebrew files, but fails with other mpg files whereas my PCH still with HDMI still cannot play the hebrew files. I need to do some more testing and review the logs.

Ill let you know when I have any result.

Thanks,

Ok, I just tried and I don't have a problem using a shortname except GBPVR is logging your filename wrong. It shows ok on the screen.

Code:
2009-04-28 07:14:24.638    VERBOSE    [6]    getValue: /settings/MVPUseShortFilenamesOnNMT : true
...
2009-04-28 07:14:24.783    VERBOSE    [7]    MVP playback requested: C:\movies\E1BC~1.AVI (shortname)
2009-04-28 07:14:24.783    VERBOSE    [7]    MVP playback requested: C:\movies\תשלומים.avi (longname)

Ok, thanks for looking into this. Will test some more myself. What is your setup? Component with "PCH2" setting using the new mvpmcx2?

Actually I am using hdmi in PCH2 (experimental) mode but it shouldn't matter for תשלומים.avi since it is an avi file.

ok, did some more testing and came up with the following.

PCH 1: HDMI with PCH config setting:
Does still not play files with Hebrew charachters. Will play MPG1 files.

PCH 2: Component with PCH2 config setting:
Plays files with Hebrew charachters just fine. Will NOT play MPG1 files.

I guess knowing these limitations I can handle it by using the PCH player when needed and no further investigation is necessary.

Thanks for your help Martin,
