GBPVR v1.3.11
HDHR soft/firmware version 20090415
WINXP Professional with Service Pack 3
No firewall running on PC

Followed wurlston's setup doc here exactly, and it did not work at all. What kind of works is setting the application in the HDHomeRun Setup utility to Other:ATSC Remap.

Now what doesn't work is that I can start pvrx2 and start watching Livetv station, I can change channels. But when I exit livetv for any reason and try to go back to livetv, it fails to a black screen with the following message:

"No Signal Detected. Please be sure that the antenna is connected or that the antenna signal is strong enough."

If I exit pvrx2 and restart it, I can then tune and scan to other channels as long as I stay in livetv.

Tuning is fast, picture is great. I'd love to fix this.

I posted the same issue a few days ago - see link. I have not found a solution but I dont think the cause is the HDHR setup, as I am able to watch every channel properly - once only - before the problem begins. Closing and reopening pvrx2.exe restarts channels.

Status:

1 - I removed then reinstalled gbprv 1.3.11

2 - Once again, I followed wurston's guide to set up the first tuner. This time channel mapping worked - I must have done something wrong the first time.

3 - I added the second tuner, but skipped scanning channels on the second tuner by copying scan-1.cache to scan-2.cache in the C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\BDA directory.

4 - Then I cloned my channel mapping by running an sqlite3 script I wrote that copied the mapping from tuner 1 to tuner 2 in the database. It didn't take me any longer to write the script than it would have to map channels to another tuner, so next time Comcast messes around with the QAM lineup, it will be way less trouble, especially with another HDHR to set up.

In case anyone is interested in the script, I'll attach, but before you try it on your installation make sure you:

* exit pvrx2
* stop the recording service,
* back up your gbpvr.db3 file
* get a copy of sqlite3 here
* Make sure you don't have tuners that make scan-*.cache files greater than 2 without modifying the script.

5 - Hitting the escape key from LIVETV (killing the stream) still means I have to exit pvrx2 in order for livetv to work again. As a workaround, I use the HOME key instead, which does everything I need it to. this keeps livetv running in the background while I can browse all the rest of the menus in pvrx2.

6 - I disabled accidently hitting the ESCAPE key by removing the line
<command name="LIVETV_ESCAPE" key="Escape"/>
from both LiveTVPreviewPlayer.xml and LiveTVTimeshiftPLayer.xml in C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\KeyMappings. Hitting HOME then selecting escape exits pvrx2 cleanly.

Sub, what happens the first time you go into livetv that doesn't happen on subsequent trips? I ask because according the HDHomeRun Config GUI utility, the connection to the HDHR tuner is initialized when pvrx2 first goes to live TV, but not again during that session.

Maybe you could put a switch in config.xml for the next version to reinit the connection if live tv is re-entered after the stream is closed in livetv if a HDHR tuner is used.

I'm not sure if this is related, but I can't get GBPVR to record using HDHomerun playing back on Hauppauge MediaMVP. Playback just black for a few seconds, then MVP hangs. Scoured through the forum/wiki. Tried Wurlston's setup doc. Tried several different CODECs. Tried disabling PVR500s (which still work very well, but sadly no digital channels) and used HDHR only. Even reinstalled OS/GBPVR from scratch. Using VLC, HDHR plays fine on every computer on my network, including the PVR PC.

PVR Specs:
(PC for recording only, no playback. All playback through MVP)
Intel P4 1.7GHz/768MB RAM
Windows XP Pro SP3
GB-PVR 1.3.11
Tuners 1&2: Hauppauge PVR500
Tuners 3&4: SiliconDust HDHomerun 20090415
Playback device: Hauppauge MediaMVP

The latest version of the HDHomerun software hoses GBPVR. Sub has washed his hands of this particular problem (I don't blame him). I am trying to work with the guys at Silicondust on this but have not gotten anywhere yet. you can view my thread on their forum.

As a test can you try viewing on your PC?

I did see that there was an HDHR beta out yesterday but I don't know if what it fixes pertains to GBPVR. I think they seem to care more about Windows Media Center, Sage and Myth but that's just my opinion.

the software drivers in hdhomerun_windows_20090525beta2.exe break GBPVR. The firmware it includes works fine.

The break is the black no signal screen when

* the escape key is used from live tv
* then live tv is selected again

Just for clarity, the software drivers in version 20090415 also break GBPVR.

GBPVR worked fine for me with the 20090215 version. Don't know about versions 20090305a and 20090411.

Silicondust says they are looking into the problem.

Same here. Just updated 2 days ago with no luck. More of us need to gripe to them about this to speed up the update.

Do you still have a copy of the 20090215 version?

I'd love to get my mitts on it, but I can't find a place to download anything but the latest release and latest beta on the Sillydust site.

The one that works for me is an older than dirt version from a CDROM that came with my HDHR.

Oh, and thanks for taking our cause to the Sillydust site. I am fcjunkie over there - I thought I would be using Myth, but after playing with Myth extensively on a few different linux platforms with several different tuners, it's just not ready for prime time - at least not in my house. Odd how an open source solution with lots of contributors can lag so far behind sub's work, even if they won't admit it. I guess in this case the old adage applies - if you want to tie something up - assign it to a committee. According to them, the 5 seconds it takes for Mythtv to scan from one channel to the next is a "feature" they can't live without. I guess I digress.
