Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.

I converted a couple of MPG videos to AVI (XVid) using "copy" (AVIDEMUX) for the audio. There is no audio when playing the AVI with GBPVR. However, there is audio when playing it through VLC.

I realize this is a codec problem; however, it is very difficult to tell what codec is being used by GBPVR. I have tried various GBPVR playback settings to no avail. Incidentally, GSpot tells me that the required codec is installed, but unfortunately it doesn't say WHAT codec it has installed. It says it is MPEG 1 Layer 2 but that's it. That is not much help as it doesn't tell you what SPECIFIC codec it is detecting.

Sometime ago I resolved a video freeze problem when fast forwarding by using "MPEG Audio decoder" instead of "Cyberlink Audio decoder". So I can't use the Cyberlink. If I set it to "MPEG Audio decoder" what codec is GBPVR using?

In fact, if anyone else has had this problem, I would like to know what codec they used.

Thanks very much

I just noticed on another forum that MPEG 1 Layer 2 has been noticed not to work with AVI.

I used AVIDEMUX to convert the Audio to AC3 (Lavc) and now it works fine. In any case, I have a solution. I still think this is a codec issue and would still be interested in knowing how to determine what SPECIFIC codec GBPVR is using.

Thanks again.

When playing back an AVI, gbpvr will just ask Directshow to play it - and it chooses the decoders.
I woulkd think they would be the same as used in WMP - so you could look for the decoder there. (in file properties while it's playing)

You could also take a look at the logs (PVRX2-native I think) and when you start to play a file it displays what filters etc are loaded for that file.

I think it's pretty easy to tell what codec is being used by GBPVR. You have multiple options.

1) it's in the logs.

2) run any of the DirectShow graf tools and render the file. GraphEdit is the most common, there are others. The graph will show you what the default rendering is - and that's what GBPVR uses when set to system default.

3) Add to the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Devnz\AddGraphToROT=1 (DWORD)
then play the file inside PVRX2 and use use GraphEdit’s “Connect to Remote Graph …” function to connect to PVRX2 and read the graph it currently uses.

VLC uses it's own filters. I like to use Media Player Classic Home Cinema, which uses filters the same way GBPVR uses them. You can use GraphEdit to connect to the MPC remote graph without changing the registry.
