Put the new mvpmcx2 and changed gbpvr binaries down.

Seems to work well....until I leave the PCH on overnight, then I get reports from the wife that playing a recording results in a black screen.

I do remember Martin mentioning something about leaving the PCH on. Is this correct?

And turning off is to standby (remote power button), or off completely?

The problem is probably related to HDMI which uses hot plug, and this varies by monitor. I'm assuming you are turning the monitor off but you are being lazy about turning off the PCH. While the monitor is off and the GBPVR server is running mvpmcx2 will need to resync when the monitor is turned on. This actually takes longer than leaving and restarting. Normally a resync will work but not always, even the PCH in native mode has troubles, I've been told by a couple of people that mvpmcx2 does a better job.

It is definitely best to power off with the remote to the PCH menu, power off to standby with the remote (which just turns off HDMI and puts the internal drive to sleep) and finally power off the monitor.

If you do forget and get a black screen you should be able to power off to the main PCH screen and then when you come back in there is a full reset which should fix things. Alternatively the Delete key does an HDMI reset. I actually don't know what happens if you power off the monitor and while mvpmcx2 is waiting to resync the GBPVR server stops, because the machine hibernates or is shutdown.

Also note if you turn off the monitor while audio or video is playing you are also asking for trouble.

I'm actually surprised you get menus but no video, I'd expect no menus too. I'd be happy to have a look at the logs, especially if it happens every time.

hmm, ok, I thoguth I saw this happening, and to resolve it I ran a video that did not use the new video player (i.e. an mvk). After this I had video again.

I have since reverted the gbpvr binaries back to the pre versions and this seems to work.

The wife tried fully powering off the popcorn (pull plug) and trying to watch the video resulted in a black screen again....still the menus were usable.

Before playing a non-mpeg, I also do a full HDMI reset so it makes sense that things work after this.

I actually don't understand what you mean by the rest of the post. You should not use old GBPVR binaries and PCH2 mode and the new mvpmcx2 probably doesn't like PCH mode. If you get black screens on video after unplugging it I think that is another problem and I'd need to see the logs.

When I talked about the old gbpvr binaries, I still have the config.xml saying pch2 and the old mvpmcx2.

But it uses the default pch video player...and therefore sorts out my problem.

Can you detail to me the the obtaining of logs for you, and which ones you want? (mvp-pvrx2-native etc, any pch logs).

All logs would be fine. The obsolete version of PCH2 mode included in earlier GBPVR binaries should be avoided unless maybe you are using the component version of mvpmcx2.

I just tried for about an hour to duplicate your problem and I couldn't, so I will need the logs for sure.

ok I've reinstated, and testing with a couple of videos the wife had problems with and was able to use the gbpvr skipping I'm used to on the server.

Also I turned off the pch (standby button to the pch interface) then standby again to turn it off. Then turned off the tv.

I'll check it again in an hour or so and see If i can start it back up and watch something.

I can say I have not seen this behaviour.
We are naughty and leave the PCH switched on all the time. The server is also set to hibernate after 22:00 if not in use. The TV often gets switched off at the end of a show but not before the end of the recording (post padding /ads).
The next time the TV is turned on, "no signal" appears if it has hibernated. Any PCH key will 99.9% of times get the PCH menu up and three clicks gets the server woken up and mvpmcx2 running. Not had any trouble with blank screens at all.

The above behaviour is perfectly acceptable to the household.

Well since implementing martins "shut down procedure" - turn of pch, then screen, turn on screen, then pch, it has been rock solid I think.

Perhaps it was more 1d10t error that anything else.....
