Probably not until shipping day. Really hard to justify spending the money for me since I am still on XP and am satisfied with it. Right now, $50 is money I don't need to spend.

On July 15th, UK customers will be able to pre-order the full Home Premium version for £50.

Not sure what value W7 will add to a gbpvr system but I may get a copy for my main pc.

I was hoping that those of us with Win 7 RC would get a break on this too but it looks like XP or Vista only. I wonder how they will track this, will we have to uninstall the RC install an old XP and then do the upgrade or just insert a CD? My XP licenses are upgrades too of long dead machines. There really is no such thing as a free lunch.

Here is Canada the buy price for Win 7 Home Premium is pretty hefty $225 too which I think is an outrageous jump, I will be back to linux

MS has stated that an in-place upgrade can only be installed on Vista. XP users will need to do a clean install. License issue aside (assuming one owns a copy of Vista or XP), there may be a way to force the upgrade of the Win7 RC build, similar to the hack in the RC that allowed you to upgrade the Beta:
  1. Open [CD Root]\sources\cversion.ini
  2. Edit the MinClient and MinServer values to a lower build number.

There's also the Vista clean install -> upgrade method which may work:
  1. Do a clean install without a key (basically giving you a trial version).
  2. Perform an in-place upgrade on the clean install and this time enter the upgrade key.

Thanks whurlston, the issue for me is avoiding a bare metal install in October since I only own one Vista license, which I will upgrade, this doesn't sound likely. My pricing was off Vista Home Premium is $249 retail so Win 7 is a "bargain"

Here's another wrinkle on the Win 7 update (via geektonic.com and Compuworld) http://www.geektonic.com/2009/07/windows...-suck.html)

"Windows 7's Upgrade editions, such as Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade -- $120 suggested list -- check to see if there's a legitimate, activated copy of Windows on the PC before it lets you proceed."

How much fun this will be if you want to reinstall a second time?

Martin.

Yeah, the same with the RC 7 - Windows 7 upgrade. You can upgrade an activated RC-7 computer, but a re-install would still need an activated license of XP or Vista.

I actually am hoping the family license is really going to be 3 licenses for $150 USD. That would make it equivalent to the promotion. It would probably not be released as an OEM version, which is the versions I usually buy (no previous installs needed, or activated copy).

I decided to just skip the upgrades and finally get that Technet subscription I've been putting off.
