Hello, we have been having a play with GBPVR in our school with the potential of replacing our DVD recorder. Is it possible to categorise our recordings ie, put them in different folders other then the default recordings folder etc for example:

c:\recordings\maths\filename.ts
c:\recordings\science\anotherfilename.ts

Thanks,

Rick

Nothing built in, but one of the recordings plugins like Video Archive or rename recordings might offer that kind of functionality.

May want to read this first though:

There are many ways to achieve this. I do it with TV series using vidimport or with an SQL batch file.

The gbpvr.db3 database has two tables that are relevant. The RECORDING_SCHEDULE table has a filename field and you can just change it to "c:\recordings\maths\filename.ts" to do what you want. If you want to get fancier, go into the PROGRAMME table and change the "name" field to "SCIENCE" or "MATHS" and the sub_title field to the name of the recording. That will cause all the SCIENCE recordings and the MATHS recordings to be listed together under the Recordings menu of GBPVR.

Sidetracking somewhat, I see that there is also a license issue for school use. I read that thread and I'm curious what license agreements sub needed to enter into. Is it the mpg aspect of GBPVR, something to do with guide data, a GPL issue or something else? Does anyone know?

XRecord has a categorise recordings feature by creating a xcategories.txt file as explained here. I've never tried it though.

Hello McBainUK,

Thanks for the reminder of the licensing info, we will be using the software on a non-commercial basis and will only to use it for educational purposes in our school. Looking at the licensing info I cant see anywhere were it would clash.

The main reason why we are extremely keen on using GBPVR is because of the ease of use. Our reprographics department in our school currently use a digital/freeview DVD recorder which is ok however we are aiming to move a step up by not burning to dvd then playing on a laptop? but stream directly instead.

I have had a look at Wintv software that came with the capture card but for some reason the EPG web scheduler did not seem to work from any PC other then the PC where the capture card was in which for our school poses a few logistical issues.

We tried Team Mediaportal but had its limitations, we then came accross to GBPVRR which so far has ticked all the boxes for us other then the ability to categorize recordings.

If there are any licensing issues though let me know. Smile
