i need abit of help I have been using a ati rage 128 pro as a capture source and tvout well it finally died of old age so i had a couple of old nvidia cards one big a tnt2/vanta it gives wonderful tvout on all my tvs(feedinng to a channel vision multi feed modulator) however it maxes out at 720x480 the other is a nvidia 6200 however it does a crappy job no matter what resolution i set it to so what i want to know is what is a good card that can handle at least 1024x768 composite or svideo and does not do major scaling i would prefer dx9 compatibility but not a requirement. heck if someone can recommend a direct vga to rf modulator that will work with nondigital tuners that would work also

thanks,
yonu

This one was recommended to me when I was thinking of doing the same thing.

I never bought one so haven't seen it's output in person.

I have one like this:

http://sewelldirect.com/PC-to-TV-Converter.asp

and it gives as good, if not better, quality that my Nvidia 5200 on my client machine.
Not fantastic for web surfing, but I can still read all of the text.
I'm sure it would be better than a VGA to RF.

I see there is a more expensive version on their site too -

I've had a VGA to Video transcoder for quite a while and they work quite well for playing video. S-Video cables can be run much longer than composite.

They are not going to make computer text very viewable, however, so using a TV as a PC monitor will not work well. If that's the goal, then you also need to drop desktop resolutions and change fonts and dialog box sizes.

If you want to use a TV as a PC monitor, then your best bet is to use an HD or HD-Ready set with Component cable at HD resolutions. You're not going to get S-Video or Composite to display text well.

An RF modulator will never display text well since it's horizontal resolution is generally 230 lines. It's bandwidth limit is under 3Mhz but broadcast video has about a 4.5 Mhz range. For text, S-Video is almost acceptable, but not Composite or RF channels.
