i desparately need to get gbpvr working with PC clients...

with streaming - mpg files work great, both for live TV and recordings, but not TS files.
with fileshareing - ts files work great, both for live tv and recordings (depending on quality), but not mpg files.

I have one digital source (clear QAM) and two analog sources (ATSC tuner and S-video for cable box with channel changer).

Is there a way so that I can force all the recordings to be .mpg or .ts regardless of the tuner source? This way I can setup all the clients as streaming or filesharing, respectively.

thanks in advance.

you running an analogue tuner? if so then they normally default to mpg. Only the newer digital tuners can do .ts.

You could find a way to mux your mpgs to ts.

Full TS is a diagnostic mode that will records all streams on a MUX - probably not what you want.

[I don;t know anything about US tuners but....]

Can't you guys use the cyberlink or ATI MPEG mux to record all digital recordings in mpeg format (BDA mux, misc2 tab in con fig.exe). Then the digital recordings will be in the same format as the analogue.

yes, what gEd said is correct. gbpvriwanna needs to locate and install either the Cyberlink or ATI mpeg mux and select that on the misc2 tab. That way the digital recordings will be mpeg just like the analog recordings.

I do find it strange that you can't get mpg files to work with file sharing... generally file sharing works with everything. I've had no problem with playing various forms of mpeg files on my gb-pvr client using file sharing.

I have streaming and .mpg mux. The only time this fails (for me!) is with HD h.264 transmissions where .TS is forced due to the type of transmission.

Yes, but in a recent thread he re-iterated that streaming did not support .ts, and said he'd not worked any further on that issue since the 'very beta' patches.

to get livetv working in fileshare mode with .mpg, set livetv bitrate to under 2500k for 100mbps connections...[i think i used 2200 as best for my setup]
fileshare mode is like the old dirty client mode we used to use before there was an 'official' one...sure, you'll lose some analog livetv quality, but only livetv, and then all your hd .ts's will work nicely...in-progress analog will still be jumpy if using a higher bitrate, but at least you can watch livetv decently, and record in full quality...

a tweak for livetv profile: you must set the EncoderPassthrough Quality and LiveTV Quality [timeshift] in direct.ini to under 2500...
you can also reduce the framesize of both profiles to lessen artifacts if they're too ugly...
[try 480x480 or 352x480,they may look better]

oh yea, also use mpchc demuxer for better client playback in sharing mode..
can't seem to get to their site right now, seems they're updating the web site..i can post the demux if need be...[it's small]
