I have a bookmark to http://forums.gbpvr.com/ and half the time when connecting to the forums Firefox gives me an error asking me if I spelled it correctly like ww.something.org instead of http://www.something.org. There's a retry button there that works every time.

I don't ever have any DNS issues with any other site. Anyone else seeing this? Wonder if http://forums.gbpvr.com/ resolves to something different on different days and my DNS is returning a cached value?

Not a big problem since the retry button always works but I always like to understand things.

Does it only happen when you first boot or wake the PC? If so, your network may not be fully initialized yet.

I connect that way all the time and have not had any problems except when the site or my ISP is playing up (rarely). (I am using opendns as my dns servers for all PC's now.

I know some people have had problems with some routers if relying on the router to do the DNS lookups (Linksys ISTR).

The PC could have been on for hours and it only happens with the gbpvr forums site out of thousands of web sites visited. Once the retry button is used to fix it, it won't happen again that day.

I use dnsmasq on a linux machine pointing to my ISP's DNS. I've been wondering about OpenDNS for a while, this might be an excuse to try it. Thanks for the good idea.

Since nobody else has seen this, it's either my dnsmasq or my ISP's DNS server.

I see this all the time, sometimes I have to hit refresh a couple of times to get the site to come up...
Just tried to switch to OpenDNS and it looks like that might have cleared it up. I wonder if it is related to Verizon's DNS server?

Just happened to me. My bookmark is:

http://forums.gbpvr.com/

and the error complained about:

http://forums.gbpvr.com/login.php

so something is working before the failure. Just created another bookmark with the trailing login.php and will see if it happens again in the next few days. Glad to know it's not just me.

My ISP is videotron high speed cable not verizon and have never had DNS issues with them except accessing these forums.

I get address not found almost every time on the first try coming here. I click my bookmark the second time and it usually goes through but sometime it takes 3 or 4 tries.
