I know I've seen the details on how to do this previously, but I can't find them now. The Sci-Fi channel has changed their name to "SyFy". With the new name came a new channel in my EPG for SyFy as channel 79. Originally the SciFi channel was channel number 45. The channel number hasn't changed, just the name. I got the channel information fixed in my capture sources (I'm using Schedules Direct by the way) by deleting both channel 45 and 79 then clicked the "Empty EPG" button and then the "Update EPG" button. The problem is I still see channel 79 in my guide and I do not see channel 45. Isn't there a way to force the guide to update?

I went through the same issues. I found that the new channel was showing up inTV Guide but not TV Listings. The following applies if this is your case.

To get the new SyFy channel to show in TV Listings I had to go into CONFIG and the CHANNELS tab. You will probably find SyFy with the correct channel number as part of the Channel Name column but the Channel Number column will have a different channel number for it(I'm guessing that the highest legitimate channel number you currently have defined is channel 78). Just edit the Channel Number column to have the correct channel number.

I'm assuming that you also went inhto the PLUGINS tab and selected TV Listings and the GUIDES tab and edited the channels for each of the Guides you have defined.

You will also want to changed the name of the JPG file in the GBPVR\media\channellogos directory from SCIFI.jpg to SYFY.jpg.

I tried changing the channel number on the Channels tab, but it always changes back to 79. I also still see "45 SCIFI" with Channel Number 45. I checked under all 3 of my capture sources and the channels are listed correctly there. I don't have any guide plugins except for the base TV Guide entry for the menu. The only settings I see under there is to set the color for different genres. Any other suggestions?

**EDIT**
I got the Channel tab to show SYFY as channel 45, but the old one is still there. Any help in removing it? I de-selected the "Favourite" check box, but I'm not sure what that does.

Did you try clicking on the REMOVE UNREFERENCED CHANNELS button on the Channels tab in CONFIG? I think that should remove the old SciFi entry.

@LewE: I go through that, but I can never get rid of the old channel. For now, I ended up renumbering to the old SciFi & SciFiHD channels to unused numbers & unchecking them & renumbering the SyFy ones to the correct numbers.

When comcast updates more than a couple of channels/channel names, it's easier for me to delete everything & rebuild the guide from scratch.

(I know this one is on SciFi/SyFy, not comcast though)

I'm pretty sure that if you still have a recording from the old SciFi channel, GBPVR considers the channel to be "referenced" and won't delete it. Your recordings identify the channel they were recorded from, so deleting the channel would leave a recording that references a non-existent channel. You could edit the gbpvr.db3 database directly, if you wanted to, and change the recording references from the old channel to the new one.

I remember having to do a song and dance to get it and I still don't have it quite right. I think that you have to change the channel frequency in both your tuner configuration and the channels in the channels tab.

If you are using the newest version then I think you should just delete all your tuners then reconfigure. After that re-import your recordings and pending recordings.

I'm still stuck on an older version that doesn't retain the recording information on a re-import of the recordings dump.

just uncheck the scifi ch in channels tab..and renumber syfy to same # as old one..
and remove old scifi in capture source...
also recheck capture sources channels, it may have added new one at end after epg update.

oh and you also need to fix any season records on that channel, adjust to new manual_channel_oid with database editor..
then you'll be done...Smile

I think clicking the "Remove Unreferenced Channels" button did the trick. The old channel still shows up in my list of channels in Config, but not in the guide - which is what I mainly care about. Thanks for the responses!

I have the same problem with ver 3.11. It seems that the "remove unreferenced channels" doesn't work. I ended up giving the phantom channels a new (highest) number and then I deleted them in the GBPVR.db file with SQLlite.
