Would it be possible getting one of these working with GB-PVR?

Did a search.

I am hoping WinLIRC is what I am looking for, although I have a Samsung NTL box - which I think might use a different type of IR signal.....

Will give it a try.

yes, winlirc is what you need along with the utility that comes with it called transmit.exe

Make a batch file that calls transmit.exe one for each digit you need to send to your cable box and then set gbpvr to call the batch file when you want to change channels [use the .exe channel change plugin]

for some reason the lastest version [0.6.5] of winlirc doesn't have transmit.exe compiled (just has the source) so I would download the previous versoin [0.6.4] so you don't have to compile that on your own.

This site has instructions for making the batch file and setting basically everything up (he's not using gb-pvr, but should be similiar enough to get you going)
