i'm running the latest version (1.4.7) and trying to get live captions to work in ATSC. i'm using multirecord. for later viewing i have ccextractor that gets srt files so that's working fine.

the second issue i have is that even though the captions work fine in time shift live TV (with the intervideo/vmr9 and VMR9 custom settings) the audio switches from HDMI to the directsound (i hear it on the sound card) thus there's no more sound in time shift.

here's the log for time shift (sound not on HDMI but captions OK):

here's the log for live tv (sound OK but no captions):

the HDMI sound (and srt captions) work just fine during playback of a pre-recorded program:

i think it's possible force to always have delayed live TV from config (don't remember the settings now) but it's useless if there's no HDMI sound...

any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!

For the live TV -- no caption issue, it looks like the line 21 decoder is not being put into the graph. Perhaps the intervideo/vmr9 cc option is not applied in live preview mode?

the live tv graph includes the intervideo but not the line 21 filter for some reason. this is obviously quite odd since the decoder works just fine in delayed playback. it may be a limitation on how this was programmed rather than the decoder not being loaded by accident?

but for delayed playback the Realtek HDA HDMI Out is not used and instead it goes to the internal sound card Default DirectSound Device which is very bad for me. are there any options to force these things (Realtek HDA HDMI Out vs Default DirectSound Device)? i've already set up the Realtek HDA HDMI Out in the config screen so i'm not sure where the Default DirectSound Device is coming from...

Try setting your HDMI out as the Windows default playback device:

  1. Right click the windows speaker icon in the taskbar.
  2. Select "Playback devices".
  3. Right click the "Realtek HDA HDMI Out" device.
  4. Select "Set Default".

thanks for the suggestion! i'm sorry for not mentioning - my home PC is also the DVR. so i'm listening to web radio and doing regular tasks on the main screen, while the secondary screen has the PVRX2 in VMR9 full screen. as such i'd like to keep my audio separated (HDMI for HDTV and the sound card for my local tasks). while winamp can be set to output to any card, i don't think the browser sound (like youtube) can be redirected to a custom sound card (so that only i hear it on the PC) when the default audio is HDMI. but i'm open to options.

is this sound issue a bug - forgot to use the selected audio output and defaulted to the sound card?

thanks!

Only sub would be able to answer that definitively but it's kind of what I was checking before having sub dig into his code.

I figured there was a reason you hadn't set the HDMI as default but I was mainly wanting to see if it worked when it was.

yes it works if the system default is set to HDMI audio. but then i can't use my PC's browser audio anymore... my opinion is that this is a bug, since the sound config option allows for most but not all sound to be output to the selected device. i just hope it's a simple variable fix that can be patched in the current version without extensive changes Big Grin

See if this patch helps.

I think the problem would only have occurred if you were using the 'TS Mux' option. Other muxers would have behaved the way you wanted. I'm pretty sure it would have been the same in previous releases too.

thanks! but i think it's not helping with multirecord (TS)... the HDMI shows up but so does the DirectSound and it still goes to the PC speaker instead of TV.

i'm not sure if the TS had this problem in the past since i have barely used PVRX2 only to program recordings and i'd play the mpegs locally. but now since i got my 40" TV i'd like to watch it over HDMI instead of the small computer screen Rolleyes

any extra help to solving this with multirecord is appreciated!
Thanks!
