when watching live tv or when requesting a live tv session start: if the client has a failure either a network dropout, codec failure or if the server has no signal GBPVR tends to handle this not so graciously.

if you crash out of the client or even if it manages to regain its composure (which it sometimes does after a lot of time of the user not knowing whats going on) the server still thinks the tuner card is busy. is there a neat way to somehow reset the recording status monitor and free up the tuner again?

why cant GBPVR display more progress notifications or error notifications like 'no signal detected" and reset both server and client to a stable state, or 'network error" and reset to stable again?

jsut an idea.

If a client crashes while using a tuner, without doing an orderly release of the tuner, it can take up 25 seconds for the server to realise and free up the tuner.

hi Sub

in this case i gave the client over 15 minutes. then i had to resrtart the recording service again, then forcably close the client.

i like gbpvr, i really want to make it work but it doesnt take much to crash it.

If you post the logs for that situation, I'll look into.

Admittedly client/server support is a bit flakey, and doesnt get much attention from me. If you were running directly on the PC, I'm sure things would work much better for you.

Yeah, cleint/server seems a bit flakey. In particular when somethings go just a bit off the client seems to hang, or the server stucks a tuner forever. A bit more foolprof programming might be needed I think. For instance so that the client can retry a channel if it did not get it working the firts try. And maybe some sort of heartbeat protocol so the server shuts down of the client dies or hangs.

Also if one may suggest a bit more intuitive config GUI. Most of the settings in the config should be grayed out in client mode, it just confuses to have them on really.

I am just in the process of setting up a client in the form of a nice little Asrock nettop computer with ION graphics and dual Atom 330. Works nicely as a little combined kitchen computer and GB-PVR client. So I will iron out all these little peculiarities now and post a thread about it.
