Hi,

I'm new to GB-PVR and am having trouble with my initial installation. I have searched the archives and can not find anything like what I am experiencing so I hope that someone has a clue.

I am installing on a newish dual core Windows Vista Ultimate 64 system with a Hauppauge 2250 card. I have run Windows Media Center on the system so I know that all the hardware works. The problem that I have is that the Audio will play for about 20 seconds after I start viewing live TV. After the 20 seconds, I just get silence. The picture continues perfectly but without sound. If I quit and restart the application the sound will play for another 20 seconds. I also get this same 20 seconds of audio in the Config application when mapping channels.

I have checked the logs and find no errors. I have made sure that the Windows Media Center services are all stopped and disabled. I have tried all included codecs.

No matter what I do, I always get the same 20 seconds of sound. What should I try?

I'm guessings its caused by the audio decoders you're using. You'll also want the audio renderer set to 'system default' (if you changed it to any other renderer).

You may wish to try AC3Filter at http://www.ac3filter.net

I'm having the same problem. I don't think its a Codec problem; I've selected the codecs that WIN-TV installed. WIN-TV, which is the software that came with my Hauppage HVR 1600 that I'm using, is working fine. I'm using a P4 3.0ghz, 1.5gb ram. Don't think the hardware is an issue. Any ideas? How would the AC3 filter help? I'm using ATSC, btw. I've got a clean Windows XP Pro SP3 installed as well.

Thanks,
John

AC3Filter helps because the audio on most ATSC broadcasts is AC3. Also, just because the codecs that installed with WinTV work fine in WinTV doesn't mean they work fine elsewhere. In fact I recall reading something to the effect that the Intervideo codecs installed with WinTV are in fact not good choices with GB-PVR, particularly the audio codec.

Ok, I will try the AC3 filter. Are there any other codecs to try that are free? It seems all the supported codecs come from commercial software that is not free. I originally wanted to try the Nvidia codecs since I have an Nvidia card (its an older 6600gt), but it cost. Any other ideas? I appreciate the response.

Try these:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPA_Decoder.htm
They are often suggested here.

Thanks a bunch. The (free!) codecs worked great.

The (free) codecs did not work for me since I have a 64 bit system. But the AC3 Filter worked perfectly.

Thank you for all your help!
